Yet another night awake three hours sleep then usual symptoms heart racing. Feeling clammy, but I am actually not ! Then I realise its Friday 13 th today! My mind works overtime. Out come the extra strong mints. my head is out the window. Deep breaths and I calm down. lol strange but true life after a heart attack!

Hi Daffodils unfortunately it seems common with all things heart. I guess you have tried the usual relaxation music and techniques. lavender oil. No stimulating tv or books before bed time etc. I just go with it now and nap during the day to catch up on my sleep. I know that’s a viscous circle but I find it’s easier to deal with my tiredness. Not sure where you live but I am in the North East and Northumbria University have a sleep Research centre and are looking for participants at the moment northumbria.ac.uk/about-us/...

Just a thought. What about yoga? I am going back to it as I haven’t done it for a while. Anyway hope it improves. It’s a lonely time in the night.

Take care

Zena

I am not a doctor. You have been through a traumatic experience. You could call BHF Heart Helpline on 0300 330 3311 to see if there are any support groups in your area. Your GP surgery should have details of any BHF don't know about. You could find that talking to other sufferers helps you to come to terms with it all which should help with your sleep. You might even be able to get counselling.

Hi I seem to have conquered my night demons by doing the opposite of sensible ! I have an iPad at the side of my bed and go to YouTube and put on an episode of blackadder or something I like then put in earphone

And can guarantee I’m asleep in 15 minutes !!!

The most boring radio programme works a treat. Put it on a 30 minute timer. If asked, do you think the BBC would put on an Insomniacs channel, so boring you just can’t stay awake!

It happens to me as well, heart is pounding and it gets worse, I have to just try and put it out of my mind but then I begin to panic, but some times I have to just get up and walk around. It does sound as if this anxiety is a common issue so that should help us all. Do mints help ?

I think so , they clear your airways , make your mouth fresh and the main thing is , all the time your chewing that mint your not thinking of the panic , I walk around too, I saw someone today re the anxiety and she is going to give me more coping skills.

Good to hear, let me know if you think they help. However, I am trying to convince myself that this is mind over matter and that we are in a better place post treatment :-)

I’ve had poor sleep for a while now to the extent that I’ve been prescribed sleeping pills, I only use when anxious or poorly to get a good sleep

I try still to have the rest awake or asleep
