PAT with an ICD and Sotolol

Hi,

I had an ICD fitted 2 and a half weeks ago and was put on Sotolol (I’ve been on Bisoprolol and Flecainide for 5 years and they were no longer working).

A week later I had a PAT episode that was manually terminated at the hospital using the ICD. At the same time my Sotolol dose was increased to 80mgx3 a day which would hopefully prevent further arrhythmia’s.

Unfortunately I’m back in arrhythmia again today. Does anyone know if Sotolol will have any effect in terminating the arrhythmia or will I have to wait until I get to the hospital clinic (probably on Monday) to have it terminated?

My consultant has told me that I will need a further ablation once the leads have settled and an AV Node ablation has been suggested. Has anyone else who suffers with PAT and also has and ICD had their problems solved with an AV Node ablation?

It’s been a really awful time for me but I am so pleased to have found this forum - it has provided me with lots of information that helps to keep me grounded. Any feedback gratefully received!

Hi Juliesk,

I'm sorry not to have got back to you sooner. I am hoping you have had your appointment at the clinic to have your query answered today. If you are still unsure of issues regarding your heart rhythm and the medication, please feel free to ring us on the heart helpline to speak to one of the nurses. The number is 0300-330-3311. There is someone there Monday- Friday from 9-5.

Take care,

Philippa

Hi Philippa

Thanks for responding - it’s really reassuring to know that support is on hand. Fortunately my heart went back into NSR on its own this morning so no need to go today to have it manually paced.

Thanks again

Julie
