Need a mortgage for travel insurance

Hello All

I have just joined Health Unlocked community I am certain others will relate to my heading regarding travel insurance.

After a dreadful year my Husband & were hoping to get abroad for one week. As we were considering November presumed it would be sunshine in Lanzarote.

Tried that many sites for insurance the cheapest is almost £2500 whilst others wont offer a policy.

My husband is 83 heart problems also diagnosed with a lung cancer in the past 12 months. Thank goodness Radiotherapy did the trick hospital & both of us ecstatic with results.

So what do others do in similar circumstances?

Are there certain insurance sites I should look at?

Stay in the UK?

Regards

Fran

Fran, have you tried tried mia travel insurance, clear2go policy? My mum is 87 with complex conditions, they say as long as your gp places a note on your medical file to say you are fit to travel, within 6 weeks of going, they will cover you. You also need to have a european health insurance card EHIC, which you can get free online. You still declare all your conditions, but this way they can cover you at a more reasonable cost. They cover chronically ill people, including terminal diagnosis and cancer. miatravelinsurance.co.uk 0800 999 3333. Let us know how you get on!

Hello

Thank you so much for a quick response. I will certainly look at the companies you have mentioned.

Actually one of the first things I did when we decided we wanted to go on holiday was to ring the our Doctor. He did mention as we spoke that he was adding to the medical notes for the record. He had no qualms about my Husband going abroad as he had improved so much.

Telephone calls tomorrow then !!

Regards

Fran

Just finding my way as new to the site. Came across some posts about travel insurance which I will certainly follow up. Trying to figure out the abbreviations members use when mentioning their diagnosis. I'm sure I will get there.

Hi Fran,

I had the same issue this year when needing travel insurance to travel to the Passchendaele celebrations.

I tried 11 different companies and some quotes were £1,000 plus. Eventually I got a really good quote (£89) from John Lewis Travel Insurance.

Good luck

Hi try insurewith. com, they specialise in people with heart conditions, cancer etc, and I found them to be very reasonable, I got a yearly policy, no excess for £112, I have heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, I hope you get something sorted and enjoy your hols, I am just back from tenerife, the sun def made me feel better, take care char xx

Many thanks for all advice, following all suggestions. I will certainly keep you posted a little more optimistic now.

Fran

I suggest you search for the money savingexpert and then look in their travel section. You’ll find references to most of the travel insurance companies that could cover folk with ill health. I’ve used them.

Hi, just read the posts re travel insurance. We have used Avanti for the past 2 years. They have 3 levels of cover. They ask one questions and expect answers just to the questions. I was amazed that they were not asking about osteoporosis - which I have and have had to pay extra to be covered for the condition with other insurers - when I queried this I was informed that if they did not ask about a condition I did not have to declare it and assured me I was covered for osteoporosis and, as the call was being recorded, I had the assurance the advice was correct. Having declared lots of health issues regarding heart problems for both myself and my husband, the annual cost was just over £500. Unlike some companies we have used in the past, they did not want to know about resolved health issued from years and years ago that had necessitated operations. Whilst this is pricey, I felt confident that they had a complete picture of our conditions and if we had had to claim, they would not have refused due to something from years ago. Obviously, not having had to claim, I cannot comment on their "resolving issues" record. I cannot understand how some people get such cheap insurance when they seem to have similar health issues. A friend has just told me her and husband are going to Japan, have insured with Insure and Go for £59! Just a few months earlier, her husband had a heart attack as was resuscitated 5 times in the ambulance on the way to hospital (at her insistence as the paramedics wanted to stop after 2 attempts). Next year we are going abroad only once, so I will try the companies you other bloggers have mentioned and compare against Avanti.

Fran - we got travel insurance via Asda, of all places! They were really good - my husband had had surgery for male breast cancer in May 2015, followed by three weeks of radiotherapy in October that year, and we had booked to go to Sharm-el-Sheikh in the first week of November (that's a whole separate story!!). The man we spoke to was really helpful, and we were easily able to arrange cover to suit his circumstances. Thankfully, it wasn't required, but it gave us the peace of mind we needed. I hope you find what you need to have your sunshine holiday - have a wonderful time! Catherine.

Thank you to all who read my first ever post re travel insurance. Avanti would not give my Husband cover. Spent hours looking at comparison sites also spoke to companies that specialise in medical conditions which is how I got the £2500 quote to Lanzarote for a week!!

Pleased to to let you know I spoke with a lady called Jess at Mia Travel, thank you to Dandemom for the suggestion.

Thorough questions regarding Husbands lung cancer and heart problems also asked how many times he has been hospitalized in last 12 months.

They would not insure for Lanzarote but willing to insure him for Tenerife, Baleriacs, Portugal, France, Italy & Croatia. Hopefully by mentioning these countries and facts it may be of help to others.

The cost of 1 week insurance will be a brilliant £191 rather a large difference from the £2500 quoted. Criteria is they will offer it only if booked up to 2 months in advance we must have an EHIC card and if treatment required it is not at a private clinic or hospital. But they will repatriate if necessary.

Now looking for a a well deserved holiday.

Thanks everyone

Fran

I had a stent following a heart attack mid December. Our annual travel policy company cancelled our travel insurance. Just used the comparison site All Clear Travel and declared everything. A company Toad insurance covered all 4 of us for £56 for skiing next month in Italy !! I had 26 other offers so panic over. There really does seem to be big inconsistencies in this area. Crazy.

Medical insurance is one of the most important things a man should do, especially when a person has some health problems, or one of his relatives has such a problem. With respect to the mortgage if you need it, I can offer you some advice. Especially for this case when you need money, plus you have to keep the goods you have. I used Mortgage Advice Birmingham. I can not say that I was somehow dissatisfied, because there were no conditions imposed that I could not fulfill. And the necessary money I received in a short time and I managed to achieve all the necessary, and then and return the money
