Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to this community so thought I would say hello👋

I have what's described as a severely leaky mitral valve, after being rushed into hospital 2 years ago with Endocarditis.

I'm 22 years of age and currently have had no symptoms which is the reason as to why my valve has not been replaced or repaired - but something I know that will need to happen in the future.

Yesterday I started getting mild chest pain, this seems to have calmed down a little this morning but I'm keeping an eye on it. I was wondering if it could be stress related.

Is anyone in the same boat with any of the above?

Be nice to hear from you if so.

Thanks!

A.

Morning A, welcome to the forum. Ok, chest pains, can be anything and everything. how are you feeling? Unwell? does the pain radiate out into other areas, arm, neckline, jaw? Any other symptoms? Really with your history you should go and get it checked out

Couple of links here to similar conditions to yours, healthunlocked.com/bhf/post...

Some very lovely members will be along soon to impart their experiences as well.

Take care

Morning Mark,

Thank you for replying so soon!

I feel fine, it's not radiating to any other areas at all just seems to come in waves. I will definitely keep an eye on it but it does seem a little better this morning.

Thanks very much for the helpful links😊

Take care too.

Hello A,

Welcome to the forum.

I too have severe mitral regurgitation as well as tricuspid regurgitation and permanent A-Fib. I am somewhat older than you at 63 and having surgery at Harefield on the 28th.

I get chest pain from time to time, have a box of frogs in my heart, get breathless and tired. I don’t know whether you can relate to any of this.

You should see your GP as the chest pain is a new symptom for you.

I’m sure you will hear from other members in the same boat.

All the best,

Dory ❤️💕❣️

Hello Dory,

Thank you for your reply.

It's nice to hear from somebody who also has severe mitral regurgitation. I wish you the best of luck in your surgery on the 28th and hope all goes well!

I'm sorry to hear you get breathless and tired - is your surgery to repair your Mitral Valve?

I don't tend to get breathless, at least not any more than I did back when my heart was 'normal'. I do a lot of exercise and am coping quite well.

Thanks for the advice 💕❤

Thank you for your best wishes A.

I am having mitral valve repair also tricuspid repair, left atrial appendage resectioning and ablation. I had hoped to have minimally invasive surgery but my surgeon would prefer to do open heart surgery.

I hope yet get to see your GP soon.

Morning A

I had a mitral valve repair in 2007 as I had severe regurgitation, I am now on the waiting list for a mitral valve replacement as the repair has failed.

It is uncomfortable when my heart goes into AF but I wouldn't describe it as chest pain, I also get very breathless and tired.

If the chest pain carries on it needs investigation, just to be safe.

Best wishes

Hi Jenny,

The chest pain seems to have subsided these last couple of days, which is good.

Thank you for your reply. How long did you have severe mitral regurgitation before you had it replaced?

I'm worried one day I wake up and all the symptoms arrive as I seem to be (touch wood) doing okay at the moment.

Hope you're feeling better since you've had the op.

Take care x

Hi there,

Sorry for the late reply,

Well i was diagnosed with mixed moderate mitral disease nearly 3 years ago after a chest xray showing an enlarged heart.

My problem became very severe mitral stenosis in march this year after my yearly echo in february.

I was not well last year and i actually think it was severe last year in the summer but was not given an echo just a heart monitor.i was so breathless.

The regurgation came after a cardio angiogram and another echo and T O E

You shouldn't wake up one morning and be so poorly as i never, it was a progression over years for me..i had strep throat and rheumatic fever 10 years ago,my fate was sealed sadly then with the mitral valve, i started getting unwell 4 years after that.

Just make sure you are kept an eye on, yearly scans as i am sure you will be.

Take care also

Jenny x
