Sleep.......

I have just started having psoriasis arthritis symptoms. I have an appointment in December with a rheumatologist but that is a long ways away. How do you get sleep? I have had increasing joint pain in my knees and hips this past week. I also have a baker's cyst that makes my calf muscle ache and ache at night. I dont have the RA factor but lucky me I have psoriasis and my pulminologist (I recently was diagnosed with vocal cord dysfunction) thinks all my recent ailments are pointing to psoriasis arthritis and each morning I am thinking he is more and more correct.

I bought a new bed as turning was painful in bed as it was to soft so now I have an orthopaedic bed which does help turning but isn't comfy...😐 so u can't win...I haven't slept a full night since this started in March 15... Prednisolone helped me so much with the swelling as my inflammation levels went up to 60..and sleep was more comfortable but not longer I'm still waking 3 or 4 times a night..sorry this doesn't help much..I'm now on mtx so I will let you know if that helps in the long run...it's certainly a big help to walking..no knee pain..joints feel much better and it's only been a bout 8 weeks so far..xxx

Hello there and welcome To Beyond Psoriasis. I'm sure you'll find lots of support and information from fellow sufferers here.

Take care

December is a long way off and I'm sure your GP will be willing to prescribe something to help meanwhile. I wonder if he or she would prescribe a short course of steroids? Only trouble with that would be if they could mask your symptoms ahead of the appointment, though presumably you could taper off them well in advance.

GPs also commonly prescribe NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen for people in your situation. Is that something you've tried? Psoriatic Arthritis responds well to exercise too, immobility makes pain worse, very often. So if your doctor agrees and you can push through the pain, then regular gentle exercise may well make you more comfortable. You might not feel the benefit straight away, indeed you may hurt more at first, but over time exercise - swimming, walking, cycling, anything really - can honestly make a big difference to pain levels and of course would help with sleep anyway.

My GPA is not the greatest... he just says I am too much of a complicated case. Awesome huh! I feel very stuck until then. I have been walking a lot which is helping I think.

Hi there!

Boy I see red when I hear Drs say things like that! Perhaps they would rather be playing golf than helping patients they promised to do no harm to. Ok im done, thats the retired lawyer in me!

I have been to some awesome Drs and some horrible ones. Im sure everyone here has. Its so hard and discouraging you just want to give up. But, something, someone, keeps pushing us to make yet another appointment with someone we heard was good but turns out to be an ass.

Keep going someday Dr McDreamy with good treatments will walk through that door
