I have tried all manner of diets, some have worked, but never long term, I suppose I am looking for help to get motivated & start again. I'm getting older & don't want to be in my mid 50's and obese, which is where I am now. How do we find the motivation to start & keep going?? Thank you.

What motivates us all is very personal. If you have Pinterest, or YouTube, or even podcasts, those can be useful to find some motivation. If you do listen to podcasts, I recommend looking up The Chalene Show. She has so many podcasts, it blows my mind. She was my favorite fitness instructor, and a best selling author. Go through her podcasts as a lot are for being healthy, finding motivation, and losing weight. And her attitude is just like sunshine.

You could also make a vision board. I’ve done this multiple times. Cut out pictures and quotes that motivate you and what you think healthy is.

Hi Hecate, thank you for your reply - I will certainly look up The Charlene Show, I've not heard of it, I really appreciate your advice, I'm off work for a few days so will look up the bits you suggested - I'm not very savvy with podcasts, but will try and find some time to get to grips with technology.. Thank you again.

Of course!! If you’d like, I can privately message you on here, and see if there is any way I could send you a link? I know for sure I can email a link to you. But let me try to see if I can just message you a link on here (:

Hi Deb1909,

Have you tried pinpointing the exact reason for not wanting to be obese? For example, the reason why I live a healthy lifestyle is because I don't want to get all the various diseases I'm predisposed to through genetics. Also, I want to be able to have a lot of energy to run after my young kids. You need to be specific in asking yourself WHY. It helps to write it down and read it at least once in the morning and once at night. Then you can start visualizing WHAT you want your life to look like when you have reached that goal. You can also write this down and reference it daily. Then you can focus on HOW you can achieve it. Honestly, nothing beats internal motivation. It has to be a drive that comes from within.

Hi Mommynutritionist, thank you so much for your tips, I think I have got to the point now, that I know why I over eat, it's boredom and stress, gardening this weekend, I had breakfast and then dinner and wasn't slightly hungry - in work I'm looking for food at 11am and 3.30pm, I suppose tiredness plays a role too, but I will definitely look at writing down what I want to achieve and why I want to get to my healthier place. My aim is to menu plan tonight, my lunches for work and where I want to be ie a few pounds lighter by next week and continue - thank you again. Deb
