Pooping blood?

Hey guys, hope you’re all doing ok!

I was just wondering if any of you have experience pooping literal, pure blood? I’ve done it three times now and each time get surprised. I’m not in particular pain, a bit bloated perhaps but otherwise I feel fine. It always comes when I have mouth ulcers so I figured it’s related but I’m not sure. Unfortunately my doctors know nothing about Behçets and are of no help. Thankful for any responses!

Could be intestinal ulcers. I remember they asked me if I had similar symptoms when I had mouth ulcers. The protocol would be to get a colonscopy, so gastroenterologist.

Was crohns and ulcerative colitis ruled out for you?

Hi Stin4

Definitely needs following up and yes I'm afraid by colonoscopy, I have just had one and it was absolutely fine when you opt for SEDATION you are not out cold but only felt on occasion the mildest of discomfort, even if you are not bleeding at the time it will allow them to view any scarring from ulcers etc.

I'm a little surprised your GP has not sent off a stool screening test : nhs.uk/conditions/bowel-can...

And the referral will be dealt with so much quicker my colonoscopy was very quick after blood found in stool.

Take care and let us know how you get on.

My GP isn’t clued up 100% on Behcets either but I’ve been experiencing problems with my stomach for sometime now which I’ve had tests for a while ago. I’ve just been referred to a gastroenterologist for investigations which will include a colonoscopy as I have had blood in stools and sometimes not often pure blood for about 3 months.. with this I’ve had mouth ulcers and sore eyes, bloating and stomach ache. I’ve been told crohns and ulcerative colitis is common for us with Behcets to end up developing! Defanitly get this followed up because either way it might be your condition is unstable and you have a flare up possibly and if you’re on any medication maybe that needs to be upped or changed possibly?

My daughter has had massive problems doing exactly this. She has soaked through sanitary towels while at work.

She has had every test going on her bowel and twice been prepped for theatre to have her bowel removed. We still have no definitive answer just seems to be the Betchets affecting her in this way. The medication she is now on seems to be controlling it but she’s been four years getting to this point.

Hi!

Yes I have had this as you describe - little to no pain but lots of fresh blood in the bowl.

A stool sample was sent off for Calprotectin test which showed mild inflammation at 65 and I was referred for Colonoscopy.

2 days prior to the scope I passed 2 motions with significant amount of fresh blood so was actually pleased this occurred so close to the colonoscopy. Alas, the test was normal, as was the biopsies taken to check for microscopic colitis. There was no evidence of what caused the bleeding, no polos, fissures or haemorrhoids and have not been called back for review or further testing.

My rheumatologist just said that as the scope ruled out Chrohns and Ulcerative Colitis, he felt that it further backed evidence for Behçets.

I have my first appointment at COE in May so perhaps will find out more then, I’m also commencing Infliximab so perhaps that will resolve any issues.

This illness has many mysteries!

I am so glad to see that I am not the only one with very significant gi issues and a normal colonoscopy and biopsy. For a long time, and even still on occasion, I am told that I must just have irritable bowel bkz they can’t find the source of the issue in my colon. Sorry, but bleeding, going to the bathroom up to 23 times a day, severe pain etc is not just an irritable bowel. For me, adalimumab has been helpful with the gi symptoms, and it also responds remarkably well to steroids, for better or worse. I am sorry that you all are also suffering with this.......

Hi, yes I’ve got a post called gastro symptoms you might want to look through - I had fresh blood in stools and compromised at a flexible sig as a capsule colonoscopy was unsuccessful. I was sedated and remember nothing of the procedure so you would be fine. They didn’t find any issues for my bleeding and look biopsies, which many other Behcets patients also said was their experience. Hope this is reassuring. Best wishes
