When I was first being re-tested for autoimmune conditions, RA in particular, I tested positive for ANA, 2007, they seemed to think it was not significant at the time. Thanks for reminding me I will dig out the blood test results and add them to my list of overlooked signs in my pile of many years of searching for an answer. It's been interesting, upsetting and made me very angry putting it all together ready for the Behcet's appointment.

I was told many people have ANA show up in their blood test, but this may have been just another one of those excuses to not test further. In fact I have a letter, just looking now from my rheumatologist, the same one i will be seeing that matches the blood test. It says i am not showing any elevated signs. However, he does not show ANA, he has elevated CRP showing 20 and others elevated which he notes, he has the ESR wrong at 19 others elevated. the matching blood test results page from haematolgy that I was under at the same time for reactive thrombocytosis has my ESR at 597. It show positive ANA and suggests a link up urgently with my vascular, rheumatology etc to discuss, vasculitis, connective tissue disease and reactive/infammatory arthritis. When that letter went out, I was discharged from rheumatology.

I did an ANA that was positive, then repeated and gave negative. I'm very anxious about the diagnosis, the rheumatologist suspects Behcet. What was the standard of your ANA?

I have been looking back at a few tests, it would seem I have only been tested 3 times and all say moderate. The one to check for RA factor that came back negative had raised CRP at 20, ESR 597. I am completely at a loss as to why there is a comment alongside the result to say this does not mean the patient has active disease as raised ANA is often found in non symptomatic people. All I know is nothing was done. After all this i saw no one for nearly 7 years.

I think that many autoimmune conditions run alongside each other and to have raised ANA you are showing an autoimmune response and hopefully you will get the treatment you need :) In a way its a good thing, regardless of a later negative, you don't have to wait for other blood test results again, tick box for autoimmune response :)

It will be very much based upon your symptoms and results of other specific tests. You may already have your own ideas.
