Hi there. My heels are constantly red and swollen and sore. So I have to also wear big fluffy socks or I am uncomfortable. But my legs don't hurt per se all the time. The muscles ache here and there depending on how bad my knee joint pain is.

Hi, yes I do, I often feel like the soles of my feet are slightly swollen or bruised. I have had pain in the buttocks & my legs giving way unable to weight bear. My joint pain has reduced greatly since taking colchicine and physio & hydro has been beneficial. I’ve also had times when my calves have felt swollen particularly noticeable when driving. I find the soles of the feet problematic clutch changing etc when they are up. I have worn soft socks also, flat shoes and staying warm helps. Best wishes

Hi Scruffymouse,

Apart from sore joints in my hands, knees and feet, the first big pains I suffered with started in my legs. My calf muscles would go in to spasm when I walked a certain distance and that distance gradually decreased over time. I was eventually told I had nerve damage in my legs and gradually lost the use of them. But mine is a severe case and unusual.

I hope you find the cause of yours and are able to get some relief soon.

All the best,

Will 🙂

Thank you all for your advice , I have been told I have peripheral nerve damage as well , I have tried most drugs lol. Starting Humira tomorrow so fingers crossed , I was a nurse but unfortunately been on long term sick for a year . Only put the shopping away yesterday , been awake all night in pain and can't walk this morning , xxx

Yes, I do have painful legs but the combination of Humira, Methotrexate and Plaquenil have all helped reduce the pain from severe down to tolerable. I can only wear ankle socks. Anything higher causes sheer agony!

I was having a hard time walking, and colchicine helped. I had to stop it though, due to stomach issues. I am now on hyroxychloroquine and that helps a lot too. When my feet were bad I took to wearing running shoes with squishy insoles. I rarely wear anything else now: if I do wear ordinary shoes I put a running shoe insole in.

Running insoles a good idea. I hadn’t thought of that!

I tried on loads of pairs until I found a particular running shoe that fitted perfectly - in my case, the Nike Pegasus. Because runners demand consistency in their shoes, they update the range but the fit stays the same. I have a collection in different colours, and when the trainer wears out, I keep the insole for use in winter boots etc. When I try on ‘dressy’ shoes I take the Pegasus insoles with me to make sure they go together.
