My Rheumatologist prescribed methotrexate taken 2 tablets once a week. I haven't started it yet. I'm scared of the effects and I have lost my health insurance when I was layed off from work. What are your experiences taking this med?

Does anyone take Methotrexate?
Hi and NO not this particular drug but after 30 years of BD believe when I have tried far too many to even recall. I know it is frightening and worrying to take what I call high maintenance drugs (I am still on many) but you have to look at the balance symptoms versus side effects?? As all the drugs you will probably be given now will have side effects. Ask questions of your doctors, can you mange without the drugs? What alternatives are there if any? Finally try any new drug for at least a month as I think it takes at least that long for us to get used to them and for any side effects to subside , just ask which is worst...effects or symptoms. Sadly now your life is a balance and only you can make the decisions. Hope this helps , maybe chat with your GP or a pharmacist.

Hi billi and thanks for the response. Yea I've tried so many different meds. My doctor wants me to taper off some on the Prednisone. I will weigh the benefits/side effects. I'm feeling really desperate and will give it a try.
Hi,if you type Methotrexate into the top right search box you will find loads of discussions, info and experiences.
Did you know you can make your posts and questions private so that they are viewable only to members of this group and not to the general public? Some members prefer to do that, particularly given the sensitive and personal nature of symptoms.
Best wishes
