Wondering if any of you have had problems with warts on hands & sole of feet. I think it may be because of Azathioprine & Infliximab.

What did you do to help the pain. A wart on her thumb ended up badly infected 2 weeks ago & we ended up in emergency. The infection drained but Jaida had flared in just 2 hours. After two courses of a strong apparently adult dose of antibiotics she now has 2 warts (growing inwards) on the ball of her foot? We are also checking out her rib as it's also very painful. The rheumatologist at RCH mentioned Jaida's bone density is no great, making sure rib not cracked.

Sorry to hear about Jaida and her latest painful problem.

I've had what my neighbour (a chiropodist ) thinks might be a cluster verucca on ball of my foot and also got a couple on my toes. Due to start infliximab in may so maybe should mention to drs.

I felt a bit embarresed to bother them but at same time have been nervous to use a strong verucca treatment in case it caused a problem with lowered immune system (I'm on mycophenolate and steroid). Perhaps I'll ask th pharmacist and I expect she will say ask the doctor - so I can preface my query to the dr with - sorry to bother you but... I know it is silly to be embarrased but I always seem to be asking something!

Hi, I have what i thought were flat warts on my legs come up within last 6 months and i'm on Azathioprine. I was told by my immunologist it's actually inflammation caused by the Behcets even though they do look similar to a wart. x

As everyone's physiology is different I have been on azathioprine for several years at 50mg 3×day. I've never had or heard of this issue with this drug. I also take Humira. I've not heard of the other drug. 1. I'd look up the side effects of that drug. 2. Call a pharmacist sometimes they know more about.side effects and drug interactions. But truthfully they sound like good old fashion planter's warts. Especially growing inward and possibly cone shaped but they don't have to be cone shaped. You can get planters wart remover. But believe it or not... duck tape will/can get rid of them (good place to try if after like 5 to 7 days if it starts to penetrate it good chance it's just a planters wart) you should change it every few days so the duct tape has a chance to get into the wart. Maybe even two weeks. Of course stop if you have any bad reactions. This has worked for me. Hope this helps, best wishes :)

Thank you all. Went to the local Dr & due to her reaction after last wart was frozen off 2 weeks ago, they didn't want him to touch them. He said they are planter warts & due to Infliximab & Azathioprine he was worried about how they would treat them. I discussed duck tape & it seams to be the only option. In just 5 days she now has 4 & the sole of her foot is quite swollen. Sounds so crazy after everything we have gone through. This is not dangerous just bloody annoying & painful for her. We really would love to stay on the IV but she now can't walk on this foot. I have googled Infliximab & wart virus, she may have to come off it to treat warts. I'm going to have a good chat about our options.

She also had an X-ray to see why her rib was bad but I got the fright of my life. Her spine looked like an s and maybe it's pressure, called to speak to specalists at the royal children's hospital.

Hi Michelle...I bet you are wondering if you can ever take your eye off the ball with this disease. Poor ol Jaida....it must be particularly frustrating to have found something that was beginning to work and then have this.

I remember when I first started Infliximab I had a terrible rash on my chest, in fact it was so bad I put a photo up on here at the time. I too had the dermatologists scratching their heads and coming to the conclusion that it must be the infliximab or the infliximab stopping it from getting better.

After a lot of soul searching with my Dr's we tried the Infliximab again but with extra Prednisolone and Piriton. Luckily it hasn't raised it's ugly head since so hopefully Jaida's warts might be the same in the sense of it is just one of those things....if you get what I mean and once treated, it might be the end of it.....it just shows how serious these drugs are.

The spinal scoliosis [S shape] I was also diagnosed with and has been put down to muscle weakness in the torso and you might want to ask about Physio to try and strengthen her muscles in that area.

I wish you both lots of luck and love

This is exactly what I was hoping wouldn't happen and I'm just scared. I hate the thaught of her coming of Infliximab and then becoming as sick as she was.

The Physio is a great idea Andrea I will have a chat as it will hopefully help the rib ache.

I can understand being scared as it is scary enough giving such powerful drugs to an adult let alone youngster + then having to worry about having to stop them because of side effects.

I imagine Jaida's consultants are being extra careful because of her age. Hope you manage to get some physio on board...the main thing is to strengthen the torso muscles and to maintain her core muscle......this will help her a lot I think. I use one of those large exercise balls and sit watching tv or just wiggling around on it. This is a good way to strengthen the hips, back and torso etc and doesn't wear you out...and great fun :D

Worth a try and you can get them very cheaply in Tesco's and other stores like Argos, sports shops.

Hope this helps a bit

Thanks heaps, an exercise ball is a fantastic idea. I'm going out tomorrow to start the gentle strength training. Gee I almost sound like I know what I'm talking about. X
