Can you have regular sex with someone and both not have the same STDs?

I recently found out I have Chlamydia. I haven't so much as kissed anyone since I broke up with my ex 6 months ago.

I informed him, he got tested (I saw the results) and he is negative. We had unprotected sex... alot... for a year. How is it possible I have it and he doesn't? And how the hell did I catch it as I was negative before him!?!?

My head is spinning.

Always difficult to answer these kind of questions. Could he have antibiotic therapy for another reason that cleared chlamydia ? also consider false positive test results. The important thing is that you tested and if it indeed was present, you got treated .

He took a weeks dose of Primaquine but from what I can see that wouldn't treat chlamydia?

Do you know what would cause a false positive?

But yeah, you're right, if it was in fact there the important thing was to be treated.

All PCR tests have a small false positive rate and a small false negative rate. So your test could have been false positive - or his test could have been false negative. It could simply be a test failure, or other bacteria cause a cross reaction. Its likely Primaquine has never been trialled for chlamydia so its impossible to say if this would have affected his result.
