Hi had my copper Coil fitted 6 years ago. The last year iv had a few problems with it. I was never able to feel the strings for the full 6 years but today I can feel them and they feel low down. I got a doctors appointment tomorrow for it to be removed if possible. But I had sexual intercorse with my partner Monday. And I dunno if they will remove it and put me straight on pill or give me the morning after pill. I dunno how it works. Anyone with any information that can help me. I will be really greatful

Copper Coil help
Dear Newtonna,
If you are NOT keen to get your existing coil replaced with another IUD when you see your doctor, it would be as well to discuss the options with them, which are:
1. Defer the coil removal for a week (as sperm can survive for up to 7 days)
2. Have the coil removed but take oral emergency contraception (ullipristal) and 'quick start' oral contraception if no medical contra-indications
It sounds from your description that your coil may have dislodged (can you feel a hard plasticky structure sticking out of the cervix?); if this is the case then option 2 would be better as a dislodged coil will not be an effective contraceptive.

No I can't feel the hard plastic bit sticking out. Only the strings feel really long and low down. I got to have it removed because of the problems it's courseing with my periods. It's just I don't want to catch pregnant. Because me or my partner ain't ready for that to happen yet. Thank u for replying
