Am wondering if someone can help me please. I’ve been on the Desogestrel for 4 months. I experienced 40 day period cycle in March and April. In April my period lasted for about 17 days. So I stopped taking the pill on the 14 and 15th day of my period, but I started again on the 16th day after the nurses advice, whilst I was still in my period. 7 days later after the period, I had unprotected sex but I was still taking the pill. Today is 44th day since the long period. I only had spots for 2days a week ago, but no period. I have done 2 tests and both came negative. I am having sore breast and period symptoms, but still no full period. Could I be pregnant? Thank you

Dear Absolom,
I don't think you're pregnant; but given your symptoms such as sore breasts etc, I suggest you repeat the pregnancy test in approximately 3 weeks time.
Keep taking the desogestrel every day, otherwise you may experience withdrawal bleeding and spotting which will confuse the situation.
If you continue taking desogestrel, the spotting will lessen and your periods may stop completely. If you are a first-time user, this can be a bit disconcerting but with time and experience you'll come to accept it. If you're unhappy with the absence of a monthly "period" (withdrawal bleeding), then speak to a family planning nurse/doctor to discuss alternative contraception methods when you are due a repeat prescription.
