Ok so I have been on my period non stop for over a year, I am 20 years old with bo children and always had heavy periods. I had the coil fitted about a month ago as it's one of my last options to stop my periods as noone knows why its constant. However, the night I got my coil (marina) fitted, I was up all night in pain feeling like I had been stabbed in the stomach. I almost went to the hospital with the pain but with it being my last chance I thought I should keep trying. The pain gradually eased, however a month later I am still getting not only period cramps but sharp pains in my tummy, the coil is in the perfect position so just looking for some advice or looking to see if it is normal? Google says that since i have never had a child and had heavy periods this is pretty normal but the pain ob the first night was unbelievable. Any help or anyone know if this is normal?

Pain with the coil
Yes some ladies will experience quite significant discomfort initially after coil insertion. Just make sure you are taking adequate pain relief. There is always a small chance of infection happening after a coil insertion, if you are still having discomfort that's significant it may be worth while returning to the coil inserter for assessment.
Hi Amber,
I’m the same as you 20 with no children had my Coil fitted in February. I had pretty much constant pain with it for around 5 months. In the first 3 Months the pain was much worse and same as you it was so bad I felt like I might pass out and considered going to hospital on more than one occasion. As time went on it did start to ease off but was still there, and now has eased pretty much all of the time apart from when I’m on my period. My period pains are much worse now with the coil, but have learned to get used to it and deal with it.
So I would say it’s quite normal, it can take everyone different amounts of time to get used to something like the coil so hopefully yours eases off soon.
