I took my pill for 3 months and then had my 7 day break but only had brown discharge for 1 day I had also met up with my boyfriend so was wondering if I was still protected during my break also is it normal for that to happen because I took it for so long? I have started taking my pill again as the break was over so was wondering if I should just take it for 3 weeks then have the 7 day break? And am I protected straight away from starting my pill after the break even though I didn’t get a withdrawal bleed ?

Yes to all these questions. the brown material was old blood, it is safe to cycle for 9 weeks without a break, and you are protected all the time whether you bleed or not.
