Do I have HSV2?

I slept with a new partner at the end of August. We used condoms. Five days later I was admitted to hospital with Meningitis. The hospital told me it was viral. I asked what caused it and they didn't say. But in the discharge notes it said 'HSV2 detected'. I didn't read the discharge notes until about a month after I was discharged! So I googled HSV2 and instantly went in to a flat spin. I booked an appointment with my GP and she had a look at my ladyparts and told me I didn't have genital herpes. I showed her the discharge notes and she confirmed that I have been treated for HSV2. Which leaves me confused. Do I have herpes or do I not have herpes?! Can someone enlighten me please?

A doctor wouldn't have been able to tell you whether you had hsv or not, without you having any symptoms. You can still get infected with hsv even if you use condoms.. that's because hsv doesn't just come up in one place..e.g. anus, base of the spine, buttocks, inner thigh etc. There is a test you can have to check if you have hsv... they should be able to tell you that at your local G.U. clinic. If the hospital you were at for the meningitis has a G.U. clinic they might be able to access your notes.
