Hello, I recently went for a smear test and my results came back with that I have HPV and also adnormal cells.. does this detect Herpes as I also have this in my system?. I'm worrying about the results and have a cotoscolopy (however it's spelt) next Wednesday. I have recently come on my period and I haven't been as heavy as normal and I finished it Saturday, I only have a period for three-four days. I had sex on Sunday and had spotting of blood and also the same thing happened having sex tonight. Before I had a smear my nurse asked me if I bleed after sex? Which I responded with no but now I do. Will I have HPV should I be having sex as is it aggravating me inside.

Results after Smear Test
Hey, from my experience, HSV (Herpes) isn't picked up from a smear test, it's more visually diagnosed and you can have a swab taken to diagnose it. HPV is a different virus than HSV (herpes). HPV is so common that nearly all sexually active people get it at some point in their lives. There are many different types of HPV. Some types can cause health problems including genital warts and cancers.
If you have had a swab and then have sex then you may bleed a little after sex because your cervix is very vascular and the swab can cause spotting. Bleeding after sex can also be a sign of a health condition: an infection, such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), or a sexually transmitted infection (STI), such as chlamydia. vaginal dryness (atrophic vaginitis) caused by reduced vaginal secretions after the menopause.
