Genital herpes

I had oral sex with someone who has genital herpes (he didn't tell me till after) He went down on me only (I didn't give him a blow job) in a moment of drunkness. Could he have passed this to me? He says not but I don't believe him. I can't believe a stupid drunken moment may result in me having this for the rest of my life. I'm terrified.

I'm a man whose had genital herpes treated in recent years. Since been signed off from clinic ( Cleared up but virus is inactive in your body for ever , similarly i believe as is the flu virus which rarely becomes active but nasty if it does). I'm no medical expert but have been to STD clinic as past client. On one visit, i asked if it was safe (for the woman) for me to give cunnilingus to her and she said provided i have no sign of an outbreak it is safe but they'll never guarantee 100%. I've also in the past seen a doctor answer a question on a similar site to this saying he's never heard of a woman catching herpes by receiving Cunnilingus. They never say it's not possible unless it's absolutely 100% scientifically impossible. I don't think therefore you have anything to be terrified of. If it's really worrying you , i think you know that the only real solution is to go and get properly tested at an STD clinic. It's totally confidential, no one has to know & it will i'm sure put your mind at ease. The staff are very professional, friendly and none judgemental. Other clients (Patients) are also respectful of each other. You don't even have to go through your General Practitioner (Doctor) and can go straight to your local STD clinic without any appointment. (I'm in England -- other countries procedures may differ)

I would be very surprised if you were not clear but i'd advise you to get checked just for your piece of mind. It's nothing to worry about and in the highly unlikely result your were positive, they can clear it up early and help stop possible future problems. I never thought in a million years i'd ever have to go to an STD clinic but went through a few years of not been careful. I had no real option than to go to the clinic as i was in bad pain everytime i had a wee. The clinic were great though and i'm grateful to them. Sorry for long reply but hope it helps.

We all make mistakes , don't beat yourself up --- there most likely is no problem !!

Hi Hannah , just thought of another point : if the man has genital herpes , the main danger to you would be if his virus is active when you have sexual activity. Also the main "danger area" would be the site of original infection i.e. his genitals. Therefore Cunnilingus (Contact with tongue) would be less dangerous to you than a BJ without condom would have been. If he had oral herpes it may have been vice versa. If you did have penetrative sex you'd still probably be ok provided he used a condom. Wouldn't do any harm to get tested though --- you'll probably feel better after doing so. Good Luck.
