Baba got bronchitis 😢

Hi everyone.

Francesca is very poorly & I’ve had such a ordeal to get a dr to see her & a dr to make me feel like I was over reacting.Well after listening to Francesca’s breathing admitted it was wheezy & diagnosed her with bronchitis. Mum knows best!

She hasn’t been issued antibiotics but to keep an eye on her- usual things like lots of fluids, take her temperature & meds when needed.

I’m putting snuffle baby on her chest, calpol saline nasal spray & calpol in the evenings.

Is there anything else I can do? Any advice on this would be helpful thank you! xxx

Hope she feels better soon lovey! Isn’t it awful when the drs make you feel like that. I had it with tommy for weeks I was taking him and they acted as if I was overreacting then they could hear wheezing on his chest so I knew I was right. I just used snuffle babe and calpol! Also got a bubble bath from Asda called baby vapour and that helped tommy in the evenings! My friend also told me that because babies can’t have hot baths for you to have a hot bath with the baby vapour in and put baby in the bathroom in their bouncer while it’s steamy to help them a bit, always an idea xxx

Thank you.

Sorry to hear you have had come across drs like that too- end of the day we may not be medical but we do know our baby’s better than anyone else! Mummy’s instinct should count 👍Normally our drs are pretty good, but this dr was really rude to me I almost felt like cancelling but hubby was like no she needs to be checked over glad he was insistent ! I’m glad she ain’t my GP (or from our practice!) 🤣

I will have a look for bath vapour that would help thank you. Add to my online order- self isolating for 14 days hubby had to come home yesterday it’s been nice to have him home helping out.

I hope you are well xxx

It’s awful isn’t it because we trust that they will care, especially with little ones and sometimes they make you feel so silly! But like you say mums instinct knows best! And I don’t blame you we are doing the same! Tommy keeps getting colds and stuff so I don’t want to risk him getting this coronavirus going around.

We are all well! Hope you are too and keep safe lovely xxxx

So sorry she’s poorly Jess. What other symptoms did she have? It must be extra worrying for you at this time xx

in reply to Tugsgirl

Thank you, it’s horrible when they are unwell ☹️ You want make them better.

Francesca had a cold for 2 weeks didn’t think too much of it she was her normal happy self, started coughing Saturday which progressively got worse. It’s a chesty cough but she started throwing up phylem & was miserable constantly crying really not like her. She couldn’t sleep with it so she was massively tired.

It’s crazy scary times & just want to keep our babies safe & drs should respect mums instinct to know her baby better 🙄

Hope you and Mary are keeping well & safe in these strange times xxx

Sorry to hear that she is poorly, it's so horrible when little ones are ill. When my lb had a cough recently I put snuffle baby on his feet before bed and that seemed to help. Also second the the asda vapour bubble bath, I'm not 100% sure it works but alot of people swear by it so worth a try and sitting in the bathroom with the shower on hot so its gets steamy. I hope she feels better soon x

Calpol plug in is our life saver xx

Thank you. We have one they are good, maybe use more often until this clears up xxx

Hope she gets better soon. Florence had a viral wheeze not long ago and was given an inhaler and it was bloody scary. Can’t imagine how you feel with the current situation 🙁 xx

Hey Jess,

So sorry to hear Franchesca has this, my heart goes out to you both. Ollie is just getting over a very nasty bought that ended us both in hospital for 3 nights and having to give him oxygen. It is not nice. As it’s viral they can’t give antibiotics so unfortunately just a lot of TLC and time is the cure. We used nasal drops for his nose which helps break down the snot and then try and aspirate it as much as you can. We alternated ibruprofen and calpol just to ease pain and bring his temp down when needed and offered him lots of smaller frequent feeds as he eventually almost stopped feeding because he couldn’t regulate his breathing and was showing signs of dehydration . All in all we were over the worst within about 7-8 days. Day 3-5 is meant to be the peak.

Really hope she’s feeling better soon. Sending lots of love xxxx

Hi Jess. Sorry to hear about Francesca - how is she doing now?? Better I hope!

It sounds like you are doing everything you can to help her.

My daughter contracted bronchiolitis back in December - it was frightening because, after going back and forth to A&E in the week, she was eventually admitted to hospital because her oxygen levels were dropping and she required help. We were in for 4 nights - it was the most challenging thing to overcome as a parent to date.

There isn't a huge amount you can do for them really apart from what you are already doing - they just need to fight the infection. We gave paracetamol and ibuprofen at regular intervals because she kept getting a temperature. Isabella was given antibiotics as a precaution just in case she had something bacterial (they couldn't do tests as it was the weekend), but if it was viral the antibiotics wouldn't have helped anyway. She was refusing to eat and drink so all I could do was BF her to ensure she was hydrated! It was like having a newborn again!

It is the worst seeing your child so poorly and not being able to do anything for them. 😪

Anyway, I hope Framcesca is on the mend. Sending love xx

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond know how busy motherhood can be! Francesca recovered quickly quite a tough little cookie! She’s now walking holding onto furniture I do try to put her into her baby walker which she likes but prefers freedom & independence so very busy now! Not complaining still grateful to have her. In a pickle over returning to work next month with all the COVID19 originally was going to send her to nursery but am not keen they now taking school aged children lots more risky plus how do you social distance a baby 😕 so decided to offer alternative hours to employer where hubby can look after Francesca unfortunately both of us are key workers ☹️ If thats not good enough I’ll resign. Really trying to eliminate the risk of Francesca catching COVID19- she’s been kept home safely. It’s giving me massive anxiety I struggle watching the news & have avoided social media hence I’ve been absent. Hope everyone is well xxx

Glad she is better now. They are far more resilient than we give them credit for. That's a tough situation to be in, Jess. I hope your employer can understand your concerns and can accommodate your request. I think nursery is wonderful, Isabella loves going now, but they do pick up everything going! Issy caught bronchiolitis shortly after starting nursery then she was ill constantly for the next 6 weeks! It was tough especially as she'd hardly been ill prior to that. I think it is different if they are already used to going to nursery, but maybe best to hold off if you are worried. I guess the up side to her starting now is that there will be fewer children so not as many germs going around so easily, plus hygiene will be on the top of the agenda (even more so than normal). Good luck. I hope you are ok. Xx

Thank you. I got a response after I emailed & they are not expecting any mums with young children to work with the corona virus & will be fully paid! They were much more understanding than I expected them to be!

Francesca is a very confident social baby we’d just started socialising with other babies then lock down happened. She shouts & bounces in excitement at other babies 😍 I think it’s so important they mix with peers.

No one really knows for sure it wouldn’t affect young children & there’s no way I’m risking it.

Glad Isabella enjoys nursery makes it nicer for you knowing she’s happy.

I hope you are well & keeping safe xxx

That's fantastic news, Jess - a massive weight off your mind, I'm sure. Definitely not worth risking it if it an be helped. I know a lot of key workers don't have a choice, which must be so difficult. Very thankful to be at home with my family right now, and I have been furloughed so I don't have to worry about working with Isabella around and dealing with that guilt too!

Ahhhh, bless her. It is great that Francesca is sociable 😊 Hopefully they can all get back to socialising with other children soon! Xx

My new born had this twice and was admitted to hospital immediately via ambulance. Put on breathing tubes for a week and was fed via cannula. To say I was scared is an under estimation. Caught chicken pox at 2 weeks old admitted again for a week. Then had a hernia and was operated on. All in 2 months.

It’s so easy for the little ones to pick up

Bronchitis. Keep an eye on breathing to make sure it’s not getting too difficult and if you feel it’s necessary go to to A and E.

I went in with a snuffly baby and gp was awesome insisted I had an an ambulance to hospital and baby was looked after really well in isolation as he had a rare strain of the bronchitis.
