Where do I go for help if my GP doesn't know what to do with me?

Hi,

Does anyone know what to do when a GP doesn't know what to do with me. They said I've tried everything that I can and that they're not sure what to do next. The CMHT won't take me on because I'm waiting for a diagnosis. So where do I go for help whilst waiting?

The first response service on 111 is useless and doesn't know what to do with me either :(

I don't understand why it's so hard to get help. It feels like I don't belong in this world and that I'm not wanted :(

I just want to live somewhere where I can get the help I need but apparently that's too much to ask for so what's the point. I only keep going for other people and because I can't make my parents sad :(

I don't know how much more of this I can take :'(

I already know about Dimensions and the National Autistic Society but they're just support groups and I'm not a people person. In fact I'm quite peopled out but there's no escaping people as there's people everywhere :(

Hi there AP52,

It can feel very isolating when you don’t feel supported and waiting for a diagnosis. Are you waiting for a diagnosis for ASD or something else which is why CMHT can't see you at present?

I understand that you don't want to be in a support group. I think the national autistic society have a helpline though if you felt up to ringing them.

I found this online that could maybe help? autism.org.uk/autism-servic...

mind.org.uk/information-sup...

autismcentral.org.uk/

autism.org.uk/

Hope it helps

I'm waiting for an autism assessment and ADHD assessment :(

I can't find the helpline and I don't think the national autistic society have one as the only numbers I can find are admin ones for their physical offices :(

I already do counselling once a fortnight but it's not enough :'(

Thanks for the links but I've already seen them :( I spoken to a bunch of places but it never really went anywhere. Trying to get help is just so hard and I can't even find help to get help :'(

I'm just so tired all the time and I don't want to be anymore :(

Hi AP52,Do your parents know how you feel? Are you able to talk to them and are thry supportive about your diagnosis? I am not sure if you live with them.

There used to be a helpline for national autistic society and I searched that and it goes to a page asking about what area in the UK you live.

autism.org.uk/what-we-do/br...

I am wondering what things you enjoy to do. A lot of people with ASD have special interests and these can help when feeling upset/distressed.

When my daughter has felt like she doesn't want to be here, we have a recovery box or our guinea-pigs and these help by calming down her system. She also has a therapist like you and is now seeing every two weeks as they are leaving soon.

Does your therapist know how you are feeling, are you able to tell them how you are tired all the time and are you working on how you feel while you wait for your diagnosis?

A little, my mum worries too much though and my dad doesn't understand. I think he's some shade of neurodiverse too but he keeps pushing his trauma onto me. :( I live with them sadly.

I already know about my local branch and all they offer is a support group and I'm not a people person. :(

I haven't been enjoying much of anything. I've been playing some games but my PC is getting on a bit and I can't afford to fix it and upgrade it. I've been going on walks with my girlfriend and friends and I've been cooking and baking with my girlfriend. Plus I've been trying to spend extra time with my chickens.

Yes she knows and we've been working on it for a while now but it feels like it's not enough. It feels like I'm wasting my life waiting for help and I feel super frustrated a lot :(

Ah ok,I am glad that you have your girlfriend and friends around. Walking can be really helpful for our mental health and it's good that you can speak with your mum a bit, do you have siblings or other family you get along with as well?

How many chickens do you have?

It is super frustrating waiting for assessments and I can understand why you feel you're wasting your time waiting. In an ideal world we'd have much lower waiting times and there would be more help available while we wait.

Have you tried Kooth or togetherall.com/en-gb/big-w...

I don't, I'm an only child and I don't have much contact with the rest of my family.

I have three Dottie, Matilda and Gandalf. I'm a little worried about Matilda as she hasn't been laying for a little while and she's not as energetic as she usually is. I'm going to keep a close eye on her and hopefully she gets better soon.

I've tried Kooth but they changed the age range for my area a few years ago on 2022 and now I'm too old. Qwell is also no longer available in my area either. Togetherall isn't available in my area either :(

Ah ok.

Aw, poor Matilda, hopefully she's just having a bit of an off time and will be better soon. Did you get them all of the chickens at the same time and are they the same age as each other? Our guinea-pigs are "sisters" and one was poorly as a baby and never quite got her energy back after that but, she's ok otherwise.

That's frustrating that Togetherall isn't in your area and Kooth changed the age range. We have vita minds and healthy minds. The first one is a counselling service and the the other is support.

I got Matilda and two friends first but unfortunately two of them passed away. (One from a cat attack and the other from disease) I picked up Dottie and Gandalf about a year and a bit ago last summer. They haven't been here as long but they've settled in nicely like they've been here all along :3

I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the suggestions 💜

social worker for carer for support?

AP52 in reply toVonus5591

What do you mean? I don't have a social worker because the council says I'm not bad enough and I don't have a carer unless you mean my parents but they don't understand and stress me out plus they shout a lot especially my dad :(

Sorry my son disabled or autistic and has social services to help him or has carers at Care Home. I just thought people who need help can be advised or helped?
