Does anyone have parents that are completely intolerable of your autism? E.g stimming, unmasking

My parents discriminate me for unmasking and stimming. They treat me like im faking autism and expect me to be perfect. They're master manipulators as well. Does anyone know how you live with this?

Hi Mushers,

Sorry to hear you're having challenges with your parents. Is there anyone else besides your parents who you can talk to about your autism? Having a chat with someone about what you do (stimming and being unmasked etc.) and the reasons why might help you explain the rationale behind how you behave to your folks. E.g., humming to oneself or tapping or rocking is often done as self-soothing rather than misbehaving.

May I ask, have you been formally diagnosed? Sometimes the official word of medical authority can help disprove other's misgivings.

Sorry to hear you're not getting the support and understanding you need from your parents, I'm in a similar(ish) situation with mine, so can empathise. I've masked all my life because of it, but wearing a mask is so tiring, isn't it? x
