Has anybody been on a cruise to Iceland with ataxia it’s just I’m thinking of going towards the end of this year but not sure if I can manage. So if you have just wondered if you can give me some advice on how you got on.

Many thanks 👍🏻

Hello. I have SCA6. I have cruised to Iceland and to Alaska. I mention Alaska because the situation was the same. I have difficulty walking and I slur when tired plus a few other symptoms typical to our little problem.

My real problem on those trips was the cold, it tends to make me rather stiff in movement.

Handle the stiffness and the fatigue and you should be ok. I was. Don’t drink alcohol, rest all you need, use a walker or stick and don’t be embarrassed if you need a hand. And most importantly have fun.

Hi - do you mind if I ask which company you cruised with. Am also thinking of a cruise for myself . Thanks.

We tend to Royal Caribbean for these trips. Less a party boat and more a cruise ship where nothing is to much trouble.

I’m going with Fred Olsen , ive never used them before but the drive to Southampton is getting a bit too much from the north east ☹️.

thanks for that Paul456. I'll take a look at Fred Olsen too. Ideally a collection service would be good too. Will check them out
