Misleading Information

With a holiday with the family planned for later this year to Florida, my thoughts turned to getting a fold-up scooter or electric wheelchair. My daughter did some research into a lightweight fold-up electric wheelchair which sounded very promising. We travelled some distance to try one out and it handled beautifully, easy to fold and not too heavy. Ideal. I found a local supplier and purchased it. I read the manual from cover to cover so knew what to expect. Don't use on steep slopes, gravel roads, grass, and not in the wet or snow. Suitable for outdoor use on flat pavements and indoors. However, the reality is very different, almost dangerously so. It did not like crossing the road at a dropped kerb, (less than 1cm.) and was almost impossible to handle on the pavement because it wasn't spirit level flat. The information given with this equipment was very misleading and in hindsight I probably would not have purchased it knowing what I do. So be warned, don't buy the I-GO Lite unless you only want to use it indoors. Not much point in it being airline friendly!!

It is awful when expensive items fail to live up to expectations..🤔 Is the company you bought it from refusing to take it back because it’s been used outside..

Sorry to hear you were mislead, I have just bought a second hand Luggie Standard scooter to take on holiday and go to the match on, I've been riding it near home and it is exactly what I need

I have been on the hunt for an automatic folding one, my condition is too far gone for anything else but they are super expensive!

A shop assistant mentioned to me that you can generally rent one when on holiday as most places offer them. If you're going to be staying at a hotel you can email them to see if they can suggest anywhere to rent one from. I should imagine there should be options in America. Or if staying with someone ask Google about nearby mobility scooter rentals to where you will be staying.

And why can't you return it? It's either faulty or not as advertised, and if they have sold you something that doesn't do what it was sold to you as being ae to then that is fraudulent behaviour.

I’ve been using the fold up scooter ( the luggie) for two years . Only use it for holidays , very impressed with it. Unfortunately I am now needing something for everyday use and am now looking for a fold up wheelchair, got a home visit from e-goes a co I saw at the disability show in Birmingham

Hi Lorraine,It is a sad state of affairs that dealerships are unscrupulous when it comes to making money! You will no doubt have bought this through a dealership. The main company is Pride Mobility, and you may get somewhere if you contact them to say you have been sold something that is 'not fit for purpose'. Also, when powered wheelchairs are advertised as 'air friendly' this only refers to the batteries it uses. Any powered chair/scooter with batteries that are lithium or gel filled are suitable for flying - you do not need to have a folding wheelchair to go on an airplane - but anything heavy to lift on/off baggage is prone to be damaged unfortunately.
