Hi lottie. I have had an electric scooter, but now have an electric powerchair....... the powerchair would be my choice because it will turn on its own axis, but with an electric scooter you need more space..... but take advice from a mobility shop, ask if they will visit you at home, but dont let them persuede you into buying anything till you are sure of what you want. 😀🌹

Hi, I also have a mirage - I've had it for 17 years! I'd love to get a new powerchair but it refuses to break down!

Hi. Yo. Yo!

I agree with veteran 250. so take your time and don't allow high pressure salesmen to advise you. If you get a scooter with a lithium battery be warned they are very light BUT very expensive to replace. I have a Minimo plus which folds neatly into the boot of the car but it needs a new battery-------cost £500!! Try and find a good invalidity shop and try first

Looking on e bay there is a big choice but I have no experience of buying on eBay

Good luck. Ted

Hi Lottie

I was thinking of buying a scooter and someone mentioned a Luggie. They are light and would fold up to put in the car. However when I spotted someone driving a Luggie i asked about it. II discovered that they don’t like gravel or wet grass. They don’t like inclines and they are not very stable! A recent letter in the Sunday Times was from someone whose scooter (don’t know what make) stopped working after getting caught in the rain. It had to go back to the maker to be dried out. So please do your research!

Good Luck! Barbara

Hi Libra7, I've had a Luggie for four years and endorse the comments you picked up from a user. On one hand, I had a recent fall when the Luggie tipped over on a badly maintained dropped kerb in Welwyn Garden City but going around Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield it is great.' Horses for courses' seems to be the watch word, be very clear when you intend to use the scooter and select an appropriate model.

Lottie.

What you must do is get insurance for the wheelchair, in case you run into someone while out and about. And of course theft

Hi, I have a supascoota for travelling, it is good but expensive. I like it as it gives me more freedom. I also have an electric wheelchair which I use around my home town.

Hi Lottie, I recently bought a blue ‘Jaunt Plus’ from Livewell and it’s great. Cost £529 vat free. It’s meant for town, supermarkets, the house. It’s very slim and has excellent turnaround as well as easily breaking into 5 parts to go in the boot. Our house is not suitable for a powerchair and want to use my legs as much as I can while I can. Also has front and rear suspension, so is comfy; swivel seat and arms that lift; reverse (it beeps); a horn and goes 13 miles when fully charged. Beware of 3-wheelers and do lots of research - we all like different features. I also have an Atto scooter and a Triton rollator ( which I love). No mobility scooter controls should get wet. Happy hunting! Linda

Hi Lottie,

I have got both. My scooter does fit in my car with a hoist but these days I am to wobbly to use that so I use that around the yard. I have a chair that I use for the rest of the time outside. I am going to have to start using it inside but am trying to delay that for as long as I can.

All I would say is if walking is very difficult a chair is almost better as a scooter is to big to fit into small places. I now rely on my chair and so am looking to get a power add on so that I do not have to rely on people pushing me.
