Is there anyone on here who keeps getting recurrent chest infections? If so do you know why? I've already had 8 lots of antibiotics and we are only just in July!
I am under the respiratory team but am still waiting to see them in clinic. I've had a chronic cough for over four years and mucus/phlegm production which then causes chest infections plus an increasing shortness of breathe.
Does anyone have any other respiratory problems?
Thanks in advance

My uncle has chest infections all the time and had lots of antibiotics. When he finally got to see a specialist, he did tests on the mucus and found it to be actually caused my mould. Hopefully they will find the cause for you. Wishing you all the best.Suzie
Swallowing problems can be a symptom of ataxia, it could be silent aspiration (where the saliva is going into your lungs rather than stomach). There are breathing exercises on John Hopkins website if you need help with that.
Ryan had nasal endoscopy. But why not start helping yourself? There are breathing exercises to strengthen muscles in the throat to try and alleviate silent aspiration.
I was having increasing episodes of gastric reflux..and it culminated in attacks of Bronchospasms ..this was very scary..I found myself fighting for breath. I needed a course of antibiotics..and had occasions of breathlessness for weeks afterwards.
That sounds really scary. I suffer from gastric reflux but my GP didn't think that was causing my chest infections but maybe it is. I'm on antibiotics every month at the minute as the chest infections are so often.
mine are caused by not swallowing properly and it goes to my lungs causes infections (aspiration) and my cough reflex is to weak to help. i now have thickener in all liquids to help prevent this. i also have a cough assist machine to help me clear my lungs. i hope this information helps you.
Thank you for your help. I'm pleased you have something that works for you. I've got thickener in my liquids already but think a cough assist machine could really help as I struggle to get the phlegm/mucus up.
