I was prone to a lot of infections some time ago and had several courses of antibiotics in a year.

I went to see a nutritionist privately and she suggested taking a probiotic. I have done this for several years and manage to fight off infections these days.

I hope this helps and that you feel better soon.

I could be very wrong but I think it comes in phases. Last year I got many infections and had many antibiotics but this year much fewer.

Sorry not to help more. I think it happens with ataxias - sorry x

I've had these 'flare ups' too, for me it seems to be something to do with the muscles not working so well these days. After all the tests at hospital my GP allowed me to go on the frowned upon one-a-night antibiotics taking one for 3 months and then switching to the next antibiotic, I'm cycling between Nitorfurotoin/Trimethaprim/Amoxicillin. Since being on these routine I have had an infection perhaps once every 15 months which is a heap better than the 10 courses of antibiotics every flare up I had which was around twice a year.

Guyb Hi Guy

It’s really draining having infection after infection.

You must be exhausted

Prob said before, but as you asked; my advice would be:

1. D- mannos and vit c supplements. Both clean the bladder, with D - mannos also killing e-coli in the gut

2. Vit c in high doses for lungs

3. Sleep sitting up or propped up, to help your lungs drain at night

4. Easy to digest food (and loads of chicken n veg soup is nature’s natural anti biotic, dontcha know

5. Doing any activity that raises your blood pressure for at least 15 mins a day. Every day (even if that’s just getting a wash/ making some soup/sitting dancing to a favourite tune). This gets your blood pumping all those nice white blood cells to mop up the bugs, keeps you fit and raises your mood

6. Amantidine from your GP. This is for fatigue, but it was originally used as an anti-viral. So double benefit; and you can take it as and when ie not all the time

7. LDN to dampen down your irritated immune system and help your body to fight the bugs properly. It also lifts your mood by triggering your dopamine receptors. .

8. Guided Meditations on utube for healing also sorted my head out, it’s f-ing stressful bein I’ll all the time!

9. Any finally, give yourself a break. You’ve had a rubbish time . As long as you can fall asleep saying you have done the best you can for that day, then that’s all you, and any of us can do....

... and yes it’s due to the ataxia. Muscle strength is compromised, so neither lungs nor bladder clear efficiently: so bugs linger. So yes, I speak from experience after learning the hard way!?
