Belated Happy Christmas Everyone and a few questions.....

Hi. I hope you all had a great Christmas. It was my first one as a full wheelchair user and a bit difficult in different houses; but we managed. I now have my new bedroom and wet room downstairs which is amazing; well worth the wait 😍

Does anyone on here have an abnormality of their basal ganglia? If so do you know how this was diagnosed and how it affects you? If so is there any particular help/treatment? I am asking as I recently had my genome report back and on that it says abnormality of the basal ganglia but no one has ever told us that before! But it would explain a lot of my symptoms!

Also I still stand with support and do daily exercises and stretches but am now a full time wheelchair user. My circulation has always been poor but recently my lower leg and feet including toes have gone purple is this normal? Is there anything I can do to help? My feet have always been very cold but I can’t feel them so it doesn’t bother me to much. My ankles also slightly swollen and my skin is very dry even with cream and my knees bleed when I dry them after my shower.

Sorry for all the questions. Hope you are all ok 😊

Hi Grapes

I am a wheelchair user, I cant feel my feet, they are always cold, summer and winter, but they have never gone purple.

I know my feet problem is caused by Diabetes, and I am constantly told to take care of my feet, or face a possible amputation..... it is not my intention to worry you, but suggest you talk to your doctor for advice about your feet.

Apart from the above, can I wish you a Happy New Year. 😀👍

Thank you for your advice 😊 I wish I had a doctor to speak too if it carries on I will see if my GP can help but doubt it. I’m not seeing my ataxia consultant until March.

Happy New Year!

wiggle your toes, as often as you can, make circles with each foot 10 times each, do this daily and stretch your feet, this will stretch your calf muscles and improve you circulation, very important, point your toes towards you do 10 times a day or more if you can, my feet are cold and sometimes purple but I find a good wiggle sorts them out, as for your skin, use nivea moisturising cream, it's in a blue bottle, quite thick but as you rub it in this will help your circulation as well as your dry skin, remember you can never over moistrise! Another good cream is E45 itch relief, your doctor can prescribe it.

Good luck x

Happy 2020 and a belated Merry Christmas to you too! Auntiesally's advice is good, as I also exercise my feet daily! I don't suffer from any circulation problems (that I know of ?) but was told by the orthopedic surgeon that did my total knee replacement last Summer that everyone should do feet exercises! Hope this helps, but you also should have a talk with your GP (in my humble opinion)! My best to you..., ;o)
