has anyone ever applied to charities to help with funding for a light weight wheelchair? I have applied to few childrens charities but the wait is very long, has anyone been successful if so how long did you wait.

Hi Lindadoc!

Through AtaxiaUK you can apply for assistance from the Cornberg Fund for help with Equipment

and Adaptations. But unfortunately this excludes wheelchairs.

Hopefully when your question is seen by others, you'll be inundated with suggestions!

Best wishes to you and Ross! xBeryl

Get in touch with your local NHS Occupational Therapist via your Dr and ask for an assessement to be carried out on your sons behalf. They will contact you and arrange dates to visit you at home :-)

He was assessed by OT last year, his physio requested a lighter chair but he doesn't meet the criteria with NHS. His chair was adjusted slightly but still too heavy for him.

Action for kids are fantastic and pay maintenance costs etc and cover up to the age of 26. Whizz kids are meant to be good too.

have u tried writing to charities? theres a book u can get that lists all the charities and/or funding help u can get. u might have to google the name its something like the directory of charitable funding 2013. they willl tell u who you can apply to, to get help. if the 'child' is under 18 you have alot more options than if their 18+. i kept writing to sooooooooooooooooo many and managed to get my powerchair funded
