DAT scan

My husband was diagnosed years ago but has had a change of Neurologist and the new one wants a DAT scan done. It is to see how much dopamine there is in the brain.

Has anyone else had this done ??

She couldn’t say if the findings would help so he is sceptical about having it done.

Hi, I had one done last year to test for parkinsons. I had an injection to stop the thyroid obsorbing the iodine. I had to wait an hour for this to take effect, then had the iodine injection. I then had to wait 3 hrs then I had the scan. Results came back in 2wks. Hope this helps, but if you want any more info please ask. Best wishes to your husband x

Thank you so much for your reply. Can I ask if there was any after effects? Did it make your symptoms worse at all? I think that might be what is on hubbies mind especially as the consultant said the result probably won’t make any difference to what can be done for him.

I didn't have any after effects, and it didn't make my symptons worse, the only thing I had to do was drink lots of water to flush out the iodine. It was worth me having it done, as I then knew for sure I didn't have parkinsons. Hope this helps.
