I am just curious if anybody here has had surgery to treat their cerebellar ataxia.I am an American so I understand things may be done differently across the Atlantic but I am looking for answers. Thanks Tommy.

Questions about surgery for cerebellar ataxia

Hi tommy1nut
Thank you for your question. There is no operation that is a treatment for cerebellar ataxia. Ataxia UK do a lot of collaborative work with both FARA and NAF in the US, as well as many other countries across the world, in the hope of finding treatments and cures for the ataxias.
Best wishes
Harriet
I,too, have not heard of any operation 4 CA.Has anyone, anywhere?
I remember 40 years ago the doctors bored holes in my head (sorry if you're eating!) and inserted electrodes to try and control my tremors with electric pulses - a bit like a pacemaker would be. But it didn't work and was quite traumatic.
One interesting side effect was that the shock of the operation caused my tremor to calm down for a few days - anyone else had an experience like that?
The nature of the disorder is not something they can't fix with surgery.
Dear Tommy , same as the rest . From what I know . Sorry to say CA is a sickness no surgery can help .
