I still fly across the pacific. I was diagnosed with sca (unknown) 4 years ago. I use a wheelchair and a 2 wheel walker. My ataxia affects my gait and lower body. Make sure to call the airline ahead of time to make them aware of your needs. And definitely try to move around as much as possible to prevent deep vein thrombosis.

I have flown to Chile 6 times, the first 5 times via Madrid and from there its about 12+ hours. The last time, last year, direct from Heathrow which is 14+ hours. I was diagnosed with CA 20 years ago, am over 70 and travel alone. If you're determined enough, you could fly to the moon but do get assistance at the airports.

We took our 17 year old to Florida in January, he is wheelchair bound and non verbal. The BA staff and special assistance crew (Gatwick) were amazing! No problems at all!
