Carers Allowance...

My partner applied for Carers Allowance, what I would like to know is (from those who know) will I loose any UC we get, which includes a housing allowance. IF getting a benefit with one hand, just to be severely penalised financially with the other, it would not be worth it, far better just keeping the status quo.

Thoughts?

Peter.

My wife was getting carers allowance because she was my carer, but when she reached retirement age and was given her State Pension, Works and Pensions stopped her carers payment..... but she continues to be my carer. If your getting housing allowance, thats more that you willl get in a carers payment, so you will get less and lose more??

My wifes carers payment was £34 per week.

So I would say, check it all out before you claim anything! 🤨

thanks for that, age wise she is 63 (pension at 67) and I am the "toyboy" at 59.

All this has happened on the day we have applied for council tax relief, so will see what happens

I get carers allowance . It does not affect your housing benefit. Its totally seperate thing.

My wife gets Carer's Allowance, and this did not affect my PIP or ESA, but I'm not on Universal Credit, so I don't know. Check it out, but I would think it's unlikely that CA would affect anything (apart from Pension, which I remember reading is different).
