Thinking to try balance wear
Hi Azizindia
I purchased balance vest for my son 2 years ago...it helped slightly..but hurt his back..he's quite thin and has scoliosis
Worth a try but quite expensive
It just consists of weights in strategic positions..I WOULD RATHER EXERCISE WHICH I THINK IS BEST FOR IMPROVING BALANCE.
Tried a cheap copy I made myself, but I got too hot. I use ankle and sometimes wrist weights and belt (lol - when I remember), and have weighted cutlery and they all help me. We are so different though, so give it a go. Good luck x
Hi Azizindia,
I was just last week tested with one such vest. I had to walk, turn around and walk back. Then, the PT pushed me in different directions, adding weights where she felt they would help. They did. The weights are little bundles of sand put into vest pockets. They are placed strategically to keep you from falling forward, backward, and sideways. The total of all the weights was less than a pound. Next step is to get fitted for my own vest. The problem for me, is that the vest itself is quite warm and comes with a back brace in it. So, we'll see. If my insurance covers it, I will get it and try using it. I will keep you informed!
If I had pay for it, I probably wouldn't, as it is not a miracle cure! I don't expect to be perfectly stable and able to walk freely. But better.
Hi, i'm marinda, and live with ataxia long enough to know what you talking about. I have heard about the vest and read about it, it seems to me it could definitely help with the balance!!
