I have got an OT vest, just wear it for as long as you can because the benefits of wearing it seem to be cumulative. If the vest starts to feel uncomfortable, take it off, there are no rules, just see how you feel.

Good Luck

😊 see OTvest.com

It's a denim 'waistcoat' with specific weights across both shoulders. Unlike the Balancewear vest which can have several different weights placed in strategic positions according to needs.

Dear Steve340, I have a BalanceWear vest (I''ve had it a while) and wear it several hours a day now. When I first got it, I only wore it about four hours a day and I walked while wearing it. As Brommie said, see how it feels to you. To answer Angelcake1's question and OT vest or, as I have, a BalanceWear vest is a vest you wear that has weights inside. Mine are velcroed in certain places where they're needed for me (1 1/4 LBS). Wearing it helps with balance. I don't know the set-up of the OT vest. If you Google balancewest vest, you can read about it online. My best you...,;o)

Hi Steve😊

I tried both the Balancewear, and the OT Vest at the recent NAF Convention🙂

Nancy Vandenberg is the Therapist who patented the OT VEST, she's very nice, you could telephone or email your query to her🤔 OTvest.com

You say you tried it, but did it work for you?

At the time, my symptoms ( mainly vestibular) were at a 'plateau' and manageable, so I wasn't aware of any great change. Although, the OT vest made me feel more 'grounded'. It obviously depends on the individual, ataxia symptoms can be so variable. Like everything else, try and see if it works for you🙂 If cost is a factor, the OT vest is the cheaper option, you can order without physically being present. The shoulder weights are determined by an individual's specific body weight. But the Balancewear vest is only supplied after having had a physical consultation with a specially trained Therapist. At the moment, there aren't any in the UK but this subject to change, so check their website🙂xB

Both vests are American inventions. Show your Physiotherapist the websites. The Balancewear Vest in particular is quite well known🙂xBeryl

Thanks for your reply, I will next time I go and see her. As I said I mentioned it the first time I saw her but she had not heard of it. I think that neurophysios are not very well informed about anything but the exercises they recommend
