The closest to reality research is being done by Dr. Beverly Davidson at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. If you email her directly she usually answers. At a minimum it's still a decade or more away. Ataxia's that are caused by an inherited gene mostly share a common trait of the production of a mutant protein. A far simpler treatment that is more likely coming soon will be to take a medication that cleans out the bad proteins.

Yes, I most definitely do. People in very high places are finally getting a clue, and drugs for Huntington's are in clinical trial. Once they have success with those drugs I think the push to move to other similar disorders will be very quick.
