Anti GAD antibodies and Gluten
Hi, i have idiopathic cerebella ataxia & every 6 months I have my bloods done with anti gad always coming back higher than normal but all my other other bloods come back as normal, I don’t have gluten ataxia or diabetes as I’ve been tested for these but as far as I’m aware gluten ataxia can be cured by following a strict gluten diet given to you by your specialist which in return makes your anti gad antibodies return to normal. I can’t comment on stuff persons syndrome as I don’t know enough of this. Are you following a specialist gluten diet? It maybe worth speaking to your neurologist or dietician.
Hi yes I'm on a very strict gluten free diet I will see my doctor Professor Marios Hadjivassiliou on the 19th September and get my bloods checked for the first time since going gluten free 5 months ago. I'm also on Baclofen for my SPS along with pain medication.
Hi, know it's a long time since you posted about GAD antibodoes but wondered how you are now? And I have not seen them talked about on HU before.Do you know what the antibodoes were called as I believe there are several. Anti-amphiphysin antibodies are the ones associated with SPS.
I have had these amphiphysin antibodies for at least 2 1/2 years but was told by my then local neurologist that they "are probably nothing to worry about". I am now with the Prof at Sheffield and probably have gluten ataxia but there is no gluten antibodies as I have been GF for over 2 years and understandably not willing to start eating gluten again.
Waiting to hear (seems that is all us ataxians do is wait!) why I still have amphiphysin antibodies!
I'm a bit worried as I think this could be important re treatment. I am not on any medication just GF, DF and rice free diet which was self diagnosed with the help of a nutritional therapist.
It would be very interesting to know how you are now and your journey too.
