Gradually my fingers have been curling and stiffening up. The joints feel fine so I think it may be tendons shortening. I can't straighten the worst affected fingers anymore so getting anything out of a pocket is near impossible. Does anyone else battle with this and have you found anything that alleviates these issues.

Problems with my hands
Yes. Iam 71 years old and assumed my problems were rheumatic. I also have trouble putting earrings on- getting money out of my purse- peeling vegetables and loads of other things. I find exercising them in the morning helps a bit.

Sounds like Rhumetoid Arthritis get it checked out
Getting money out of a wallet and holding a fork or spoon--harder. So is waving and clapping. N
I have no diagnosis, but I have the same thing on 1 finger that started slowly changing years ago but has gotten worse each year. People have asked if I have RA, but I can bend my finger. There's no joint pain with it or redness. I've wondered if it's dupuytren contracture, but mine looks slightly different.
a friend of mine has this . she thought initially it was the Parkinsons disease she had . her hands are very painful especially the thumbs which are swollen and misshapen. I gave her Voltarol gel to rub in which gave some relief but when she saw the rheumatologist she is being referred for surgery on her thumbs- they will split the bone in her thumb- sounds painful. she has rheumatoid arthritis but was told to rest the swollen and painful joints as much as possible. hope you get answers aboutthis all the best Sylvia
Scott,
I forgot to add in my first reply. You may know this already, but spasticity. can lead to contractures. But I don't know if that's the same as tendon shortening. I've always thought my odd finger deformity was related to whatever I have because as my balance became worse, so did my finger.
Happens every so often. I try siting on hand for bit x
