I have same problem Claire I find relating my arm under a small rolled towel acts like a shock absorber Guy
Hi Clairehope you are well. I to have tremors and find èating hard. I got some plastic cutlery the same colour as real cutlery and use that. I find the tremors come down from my head so I hold the back of my head with 1 hand.
All the best

Hi Claire
I too have difficulty eating. I have to hold my head with 1 hand as it is soo shaky. I also suffer with cervical dystonia so my mouth isn't where it should be!
As a result I have to use one hand (right as my left side is worse). I cannot use a knife. Have food easy to eat ie salmon or something. Often I use a spoon which saves the food spilling off before I've reached my mouth! I don't know if uve tried this but it works for me!
I also wear a bib! At the moment kitchen roll to catch any canteen medals!
Sorry I've never tried special cutlery so can't comment on this.
🤗😕
Hi Claire,
it will depend where the tremor is coming from. Sometimes weighted cutlery helps but don't buy anything yet. Ask to be referred to an occupational therapist with neurological experience. They will be able to trial assorted equipment or teach you techniques to help you 'fix' parts of your body to help control other movements.
Good luck!
I've just started noticing a tremor in my right hand . It seems to get worse when I pick up a cup of coffee.
I also have problems with utensils. I use a large spoon and a large fork, use a bib, and hold the food up on my chest. In a large bowl, so that I don't drop it everywhere, because of shakes and dropitis. This is at home. It works good. I have CA and diagnosed PD. Levodopa helps me some, but this solution helps me. I have not seen any special silverware sold anywhere. Going out to eat is another matter altogether. I certainly can't eat in a restaurant using the technique I use at home. Usually we get takeout, and then I don't have to deal with embarrassing myself. In the early stages of these ailments, I was able to find a way of eating out, where I didn't shake so much. Now, it is a different story, so I just adapt and not worry about it. It is what it is.
