Tiddle thee not

I seem to have trouble fully emptying my bladder. Sometimes it can take 10-15 times to feel comfortable. I have had tests and scans etc and they found nothing wrong. I am not overweight l wondered if it could be something to do with my pelvic floor muscles. Im 63

You could have an overactive bladder which is telling you that you need to go when you really don't. Try to retrain it. When you go to the toilet an have a wee stand up jiggle a bit and sit down to see if there's any more to come. Then tell yourself I'm not going again for at least 1 hour. If you get the urge to go in the hour sit down and count slowly to ten. The urge should go away. Continue this and slowly increase the time inbetween. Good luck x

It could be an irritant. Do you drink wine, coffee, anything strong? Try a day with just mainly water and see if that makes a difference. Bladder spasms can be caused by things such as alcohol and caffeine or too much sugar or fizzy drinks.

You might need an antispasmodic to help go back to your go and ask for further help you shouldn't be being left when it's like that. X

Hi😊 You might be surprised at how many Ataxians have bladder problems. After having so many tests it must give you some reassurance that nothing drastic is in the offing🤔

Google 'neurogenic bladder'. There are several links which help in understanding the condition😊xB

Hi Viv I was the same and getting up 3-4 times during the night. Feeling as though I really needed to go or I'd wet myself! only for it to be a thimble full and just as I move I'd want to pass more water. Thankfully it's gone normal now. Hope everything goes well for you x

Hi Viv, although bladder difficulties are known to be an issue that goes along with ataxia, at Ataxia UK we were surprise by the response to our survey last summer in which 63% of our 366 respondents reported these problems. There were several other issues like this, and we are going to be looking to form research partnership with other charities who work in these areas. e.g. in this instance Bladder Health UK. You may manage to get some specialist advice from one of these, bladderhealthuk.org or bladderandboweluk.co.uk/. Best wishes Sue

I had a similar issue. A urologist who specializes in brain issues gave me a med called Spasmex, made in Germany. It helps but also gives me a very loose stool and gas. Apparently many folks w brain issues also have bladder trouble. N

Don't assume orange juice is good for you. Firstly, any undiluted juice is usually too much for the stomach. Secondly your body may simply not tolerate orange juice. This happens to more people than you might think.
