Hi, I have idiopathic cerebellar ataxia. I had a DEXA scan which showed I have weak bones that are prone to fracture, particularly my lower lumbar region. Aside from vitamin d supplementation, does anybody have any tips or tricks?
Thanks

Hi willywonka1968
Weak bones are not a direct consequence of ataxia and there is more likely another underlying cause. Aside from the Vitamin D, has you doctor recommended any other medication?

I havnt consulted one yet but they never suggest anything unless it's 100% scientifically supported..no good really .
Who and why recommended you have a DEXA scan?
Harriet
Family history and dr said it was reasonable as I'm in a wheelchair
Ah right. I would advise speaking to the doctor who requested it to see if you need to take anything, for example calcium to help strengthen your bones, based on the results of your scan. There might be something that is beneficial to you that is not available over the counter and has to be prescribed by a doctor.
