Can anyone recommend a lightweight, collapsible wheelchair that will fit in a car and self steering if possible. (One with the big wheels). Thanks.

kuschall do an ultra light one which we have had for a couple of years and can be self propelled or pushed dependant on needs, used to be able to get it in the boot of my nissan micra and a renault clio. We got ours through wheelchair clinic so did not have to pay for it but have checked on internet and expensive if you have to buy it yourself (but ask for a assessment you can get voucher to go and buy your own independantly but probably may have to put something towards it or get it through the wheelchair clinic. We have just changed ours and if we had wanted kuschall this time would have had to pay towards it.

Hi Wobblymum.

I went through this process recently and, in London at least, you can forget about NHS vouchers unless you are literally unable to walk. No help for part-time wheelchair users.

I spend many hours searching the internet, and then started visiting the mobility showrooms. In the end, I got a second hand wheelchair for £105.

My suggestion would be to get, at least in the beginning, a second hand wheelchair - there really is no need to spend a lot of money unless you can really afford it.
