Cruises for a wheelchair dependent.

Does anyone have experience of cruise holiday companies for a wheelchair dependent passenger who needs an adapted bathroom/wetroom please? 

Any advice welcome.

Hi. I went on a cruise with my wife last year and it was fab! We went all inclusive with Thomson's. We booked early so that we would be able to book a disabled cabin. It was the Thomson's 'Celebration' ship and the disabled cabin was big. The disabled cabins also faced the front of the ship on an upper deck with two great windows to look out. We are going on another Thomson's cruise again this year and have booked a disabled cabin on the Thomson's 'Majesty' this time. I hear that the disabled cabins are not as big but still able to accommodate a wheelchair. The disabled cabins are high enough up this ship on the promenade deck level 7 but the window faces out to the side.

Hiya

I've cruised with Royal Caribbean as an able-bodied passenger in the 80's and 90's and if I was still 'able-bodied', they'd be my first choice.   Now looking at cruising with them again in 2018 to celebrate finishing my Degree with the Open University.  I'm now a full-time wheelchair user and have been asking friends within the student community for recommendations.  Royal Caribbean are coming out on top again and again for on board service; rooms and accessibility to all areas.  Added to this is the fact they cruise from Southampton so there are no hassles with airports and planes.

My husband is wheelchair/mobility scooter dependent and we have cruised with Celebrity & P&O. Both provide large cabins and wetrooms and the rest of the ship is accessible. We have only ever gone from Southampton but the service is excellent. I hope this helps.

at Xmas we did a royal carribean cruise, cabin was fully accessible, staff were great, only drawback was when my son was about himself he found self propelling his wheelchair he found it difficult due to the lovely carpets everywhere, but he managed.

We tried a weeks P&O cruise in the Med last September to see how it would suit our wheelchair-bound son. Overall there were good things and bad things. It was very expensive imo. To get an adapted cabin with a balcony ( do NOT go for inside cabins or those with just a window) you need to book at least 12 months ahead and therefore cannot get any of the late deals offered to non-disabled travellers. I bet we paid double compared to many other passengers. Our son was unable to disembark in Guernsey as we needed a tender to go ashore (we knew this when booking) and when we got to Lisbon and Porto they were both old towns and not wheelchair friendly. The ship was great, the food fantastic but all in all I think you can do much better for your money.

YEP PRICE HINTS HELP SOME COMPANIES THINK WE SHOULD PAY MORE EVEN JUST TO GET BASIC ACCESS TO DINNER TABLE EVEN I NEVER DONE CRUISE YET BUT WILL TRY LOCA;; COMPANIES LIKE P &O FOR DETAILS ON HANDICAP WELL EASE OF WHEEL CHAIR USAGE AND IF ANY SMALL MEDICAL ASSISTANCE LIKE SHIFTING NUM BUM IN THE WHEELCHAIR NOT NEED TO PAY FOR A NURSE TO BE THERE FOR STUPID WEE THINGS
