Just received a questionnaire today from ATOS (relating to Incapacity Benefit) and really don`t understand it. Can I contact Citizens Advice and ask for a home visit for help with it? Visiting them is out of the question unfortunately.

I`ve read through it and it all looks confusing - asking same questions seemingly twice?

Hi, with the questionnaire is information of who you can contact help you. Good luck! I've just had to do mine again, it isn't an easy questionnaire!

yes you can ask your local Citizens Advice for a visit, just call them, in Essex they operate a call centre who can arrange for your local one to call you back, while you are asking them, ask for a Benefit Check at the same time, also have a look at their web site adviceguide.org.uk

Good luck, Nigel

The questions do repeat themselves, try and put as much detail as you can about your illness, and base your answers on how you are on your very worse days. It is a good idea to have CAB help you fill it in.

Hi John

Thank you for your question.

It says on the main CAB website that most CABs can arrange home visits. As Nigel suggested, call them. My other suggestion would be phoning your local council to ask if they have welfare rights officers who may be able to help with filling in the form.

Best Wishes

Harriet

Well I did give my local Citizens Advice Centre a telephone call, but they must have been busy as I was redirected to another Advice Centre outside my area. And to say they were not interested would be an understatement, his advice was simple: Fill the form in and return it and wait for them to contact you....................When I mentioned SCA6 and Ataxia and even volunteered to explain what it was..........................repeated himself, fill in the questionnaire and return it.

So what I`ll do is contact my local taxi firm on Monday who do have special taxi`s for wheelchair`s and just go to my local Advice Centre. At least I`ll get to see someone face to face.

What a wonderful world.......... :-)

Oh dear John, I am sorry you got that response. Very frustrating. I hope that you will receive better help when you go and see them on Monday. I would think about giving your local council a ring as well.

Success. I gave my local CAB andother call and managed to get through this time. And what a difference. The lady could not be more helpful, she was an absolute angel :-)

I`ve been advised to ask my GP (who I`m seeing on Wednesday) to refer me for a C.A.B Home Visiting Service A.S.A.P.

The lady also asked what benefits I`m on and it appears I`m entitled to others - I did not know this :-(

So thanks for all your message ladies and gentlemen, this truly is a wonderful site :-)

Now it`s my tablets time and nice cup of tea.....

CAB visit today 11.30am: Doctor is also visiting me later on today and the hospital will be ringing to arrange another appointment - heart scan.

Busy, busy day.

And it has taken ages to type this - fingers are still in dispute with the brain :-)

Wow, so many questions on that questionnaire and so many that completely baffled me. It`s a good job that the lady from CAB knew what she was doing because this old boy did not have a clue.

Now it`s all done, dusted and posted. Such a nice young lady cheered me up good and proper.
