Xolair side effects

I’ve been on xolair for three months but am finding the side effects quite nasty for a few days, really bad fatigue that totally wipes me out and stomach cramps.

I’m due to speak to my consultant in a few weeks. I was wondering has anyone changed to a different biologic due to side effects?

I was on xolair for 12 months about 3 years ago but it did nothing for me at all , can’t say I noticed any side affects at all , I’ve since been on mepolizomab and Benralizumab also no issues ... I would definitely mention any side affects you have with your nurses or specialist

I had fatigue initially but only after the first shot. I think it's because histamine plays a big role in the sleep cycle. I've been on it for two years with no side effects. So sorry to hear it hasn't been a good fit for you. I want to say (but am not 100% certain) Xolair is the only one currently on the market that targets IgE--do you have allergic asthma? The others target eosinophils-

hilary39 is correct.... it depends on which biologic is the right fit for your phenotype of asthma. If you are currently taking Xolair then your asthma is prob allergic? The others available atm are for eosinophilic asthma so you may not qualify for them. You need to consult your hosp team really but give Xolair a good chance before you give up...

It maybe life changing if you can put up with a few side effects.

Good Luck

😊

I think the Xolair is helping, I just wondered what other people’s experience was. I know I also meet the criteria for eoisinophils. But the whole biologic treatment is very new to me.Thank you for your reply x

There are a lot of great threads on xolair in the archives on this site—just search “xolair”. If you’re on Facebook there are also a few xolair groups where people write extensively about their experience on the drug. It’s a big change and understandable you have a lot of questions, especially since you have side effects! I should add it took six months to kick in for me-

Hi I’ve been on Xolair for years now, it really is a life changer for me the fatigue is still there for me 1 to 2 days afterwards the nausea the joint pain but I’ve hardly had any hospital admissions, haven’t been blue lighted in in years and killing of a fairly normal life. So for the sake of two days maybe eight every four weeks I’ll take that, it takes a good couple of months to bed in well it did for me I’m at my consultant said when I was hesitant about carrying it on was that if you come off it and you go back on it will never be as affective as it was when you first started it. My advice would be to continue I give myself my own injections at home on a Friday night or Friday afternoon so I’ve got the weekend to recover so my productivity at work and attendance is so much better. Hang in there, I promise you you won’t regret it.

Thank you. I am planning on continuing, it’s already starting to make a difference. I have had less steroids and not using my reliever as much. It’s just all very new and good to know of other people’s experience.Thank you for taking the trouble to reply x

Good news, it really has been a game changer for me. In fact in a twisted way fatigue day as known in my home is movie & snack day :)
