Side effects
hi. It took my body about a month to adjust. I became restless and I think my sleep worsened for a while. Fostair has been brilliant for my asthma/ bronchiectasis only one bad flare up in the 5 years since starting it. Keep with it for a few weeks unless you’re really bad and then see your doctor or whoever prescribed it x
my asthma did very well on Forstair but the side effects were horrid and I had to stop taking it. In my case it was fairly severe muscle cramps in my legs.
If you look at the patient leaflet it does mention that Fostair can, like other asthma inhalers, affect your level of potassium. It states, "Treatment with a beta-2-agonist like the formoterol contained in Fostair can cause a sharp fall in your serum potassium level (hypokalaemia)." It also highlights the issue may be exacerbated by treatments for high blood pressure or heart disease or other asthma meds, depending on what they are. Your doctor should be made aware of your side effects so they can assess the situation and check your potassium levels.
Lower potassium, especially if you're already not consuming enough in your diet, can lead to muscle cramps and twitches (potassium is necessary for muscle function). It can also affect electrical issues with the heart, producing palpitations.
I learned the hard way and was fortunately tested when in hospital. My low levels were from Symbicort. I was given prescribed potassium until my levels sorted themselves out.
I took Fostair 200/6 a while ago and stopped it because I felt shaky. just started Fasenra which is aso making me shaky but I needed something better than the Clenil I have been on for ages ages and was prescribed Fostair inhaler. so double shakes! my legs feel even worse and have stopped the Fostair again as the picture is confused as I can't tell whether the Fostair is helping. I was wondering if the shakiness eventually wears off in which case I will try the Fostair again when the biologic is removed from my system.
I get cramp in feet and hands mainly and also shakes in my hands, the cramp is sorted by eating bananas but the shakes I've not really worked out, they are not constant or straight after using an inhaler some days are bad some no shake at all? I think fatigue may be a factor but it's a small price for being able to breath well.
