Covid vaccine reaction

My wife had the vaccine yesterday. We were surprised she got called as she doesn't meet the criteria for severe asthma or been diagnosed with severe asthma so surprised she got called in group 4. Both her and I have been to hospital and been on 1 course of steroids and diagnosed with two weeks of her. We both were reacting to really bad smokey air outside which made our breathing really bad. She also got got called for the flu jab and I didn't. So we aren't quite sure what the criteria is they are using. She's on a different steroid.

She hasn't needed her inhaler for weeks but she's had a nasty reaction to the vaccine, and needed her inhaler.

The bad reaction makes us grateful she's had ithe vaccine, as what would covid be like for her.

She says it feels as bad as having norovirus.

We rung 111 as we read that mild flu symptoms are common and we were told that younger people were sometimes getting very bad reactions to the Oxford vaccine. And you should feel better in 24 hours.

Thought I would share the experience as not too many younger people have had the jab that have what may be classified as moderate asthma ( we don't really for sure ), we couldnt find much information online.

Edit: Just want to remind people to have your rescue with having the jab and afterwards. It's easy to forget if your asthma is under control.

Did you report this to the yellow card system that they have with the vaccines too?

Probably the sign of a very effective immune response to the vaccine, which should lower her susceptibility to the real thing quite considerably.

I think your right. And makes you less likely to get and die from covid. Which of cause is very good. However I think long covid is caused by damage from the immune systems response the the virus. It's younger people with good immune systems that are suffering long term effects. The other concern is that it can trigger an asthma attack so good to have preventative at hand. It's easy to forget it if your not needing it.

Could well be right. As I recall, it was young adults who were worse affected by swine flu, because their immune systems went into overdrive, and many succumbed to cytokines storms. And asthma, bring an autoimmune response, could well be triggered by an over-active immune system (though, oddly enough, the evidence for asthma sufferers being severely ill with COVID in the first instance seems to be rather sketchy - seems mainly to affect the obese, diabetics, or those with heart conditions and COPD, with asthmatics being fairly typically affected along with the general population). Not worth the risk, though!
