Sore throat side effect

Hi all, I recently got a generic version of Seretide - usually I get the branded version. I’ve had an awful sore throat since switching. At first I thought I was ill but the rest of me feels fine and I have no other symptoms. It’s been consistently sore for about 2 weeks now.

Has anyone experienced sore throat as a side effect? I use a spacer and brush my teeth immediately afterwards. Will it go away when I get used to this new inhaler?

Obviously I don’t want to bother my asthma nurse with it - but my throat is very sore.

Is it Braltas you have now? If so, all I can say it didn't have that effect on me.

It’s called Seretide but made by a different company than usual. Usually it is the GSK one I get.

Do you think I can ask for another repeat prescription that specifies the branded Seretide?

You need to discuss this with your pharmacist and explain that you have side effects from the generic version. They should be able to provide the branded version. Don't put up with "it's the same" argument. If they won't do this then seek out a pharmacy that will help you.

Boots are good at giving you the option.

BTW if the pharmacist claims that it's out of stock with the manufacturer you can check directly with GSK via webchat if there's availability. Just find the med on their website and click on webchat. It's an excuse used by some pharmacies. I wonder if they make more money by issuing generic versions?

There has been panic ordering of repeat prescriptions so that may be the reason for any shortage.

Thanks Poobah, makes sense. I e found that sore throat in the evenings is alleviated by wine so will give that a go!! I expect the demand is very high right now so I think can put up with a sore throat until it’s time for a new prescription.

I gargle with listerine if I get a sore throat. I'm allergic to wine because of the sulphites, so listerine it is. 😂

Good thinking. I will get some listerine - it will stop me from drinking too much wine!!

Hello, I’ve been using sprays since 1970s & as with all asthma sprays there is a very fine mist that actually reaches its intended target the Bronchial tubes, however the larger partials can & do stick to the throat causing soreness, I found having a (warm cup of tea) directly after using sprays even using a spacer ( washes ) most of the larger partials down into the stomach where it does no harm due to stomach acids dissolving it
