I really can't push herbal remedies enough, esp. for those of us that have to be on antibiotics lifelong. There is a wonderful plant that grows in abundance in our country-side - Ribwort Plantain, I try to eat a few leaves a day in my food (either steamed or raw) and it holds of my chest infections with no side-effects. It really isn't good to be on strong medication permenantly as you invariably end up with a whole lot of other problems to contend with.
Sandra Marie. Could you tell me where I can get ribwort plaintain? Dont suppose you live in Herts. Love Annie80
Ooooh sorry to hear that you are so much under the weather. I agree with SandraMarie, that longterm meds can bring their own issues.
So I am wondering, first off, are you taking some acidophilus or Actimel to balance out your good bacteria? And how are you boosting your immune system? Vitamin C? Lots of fresh fruit and veg. Perhaps more protein than carbohydrate? ( unless you have a issue with protein?) serious periods of relaxation to music or breath meditation? These can help your T cells smile.
Hope you feel better very soon.
Aha,this is really interesting and will certainly study your post in detail later, thanks for that.
Thanks Ted, for this much needed information. I am getting over yet another chest infection. Reading your good advice has given me hope. I have to take antibiotics and try to avoid steroids. Thanks for your help. Happy Christmas - love Annie80

norris 3 I'm the same just had a spell in hospital pneumonia!! I'm on home oxygen 16/24 seem to be having infection all the time steroids made me put on a lot of weight got no energy and tired all the time..feeling a bit down also as its 1st anniversary of husband's death. Has anyone got information about liquorice root capsuels?
Ted, thanks for your informative post. I have a question on Lactoferrin; maybe you have an answer. You said " Lactoferrin locks up any free iron in your blood..." Throughout the years my iron count has been extremely high. The doctors haven't done the test yet because my iron will be high one year and normal the next. Do you think that since Lactoferrin has that effect on iron, that it might take care of my excess iron? I understand you are not a doctor but I am just wondering if you have an opinion. I also have bronchiectasis. Yes, the body is starting to fall apart but I intend on bringing it back to health! So I will check into raw milk because of its positive effect on the immune system. Or would getting the supplement Lactoferrin give me the same result? Any thoughts you have would be welcome.
P.S. I am taking antibiotics and also taking the probiotic Jarro-Dophilus. Also taking selenium, astragalus, ashwagandha, Vite D, with a few other tasty morsels thrown in.
Ribwort grows in the country-side. It's the plant that has the 'flower' that looks a bit like a mini bullrush. I have loads in my garden, but it generally grows on grass verges or anywhere thats's grassy and wild. You might be able to buy a tincture or tea form from a herbalist, but obviously if you can find it for free so much better. I have Bronchiectasis so always suffer with phlegm, which is prone to infection, and it really does work. I've been eating it for nearly two years now and I still marvel at the way it so quickly works. Best of luck finding a source!
