Could this be true? perhaps we need to print and highlight, when our illness comes into question......
In all cases.....an indefinite award? - Lung Conditions C...
In all cases.....an indefinite award?
This is very interesting and could be a great help to lots of people on here. Well done.

Provided the award is given in the first place, very rare for mild / moderate to be granted.
As they are only guidelines, several people still get time limits. Plus indefinite period will have no bearing, if you are being re-tested. under PIP.
I am classed as moderate at the moment and very confused about this PIP,
I am classed as 'severe' ( FEV1 37% ) and have failed three times to get help,I was told as I could walk slowly I was not entitled to any help and now my I.B. is in question? I'm confused as well!
Judgeing by the severity of your condition, i would exspect you to be recieving, DLA mobility, and care, (middle rate). I would advice you to ring the BLF helpline. For advice. ASAP. Don't forget to mention IB, that should be in question, unless you be transfered to ESA, which i don't thinks applies to you. good luck.
PIP replaces DLA
ESA replaces IB
ESA transfer has been in process since last year, it will take time for everyone to be reassessed and the transfer to the new benefit/s made. PIP assessments will begin next year. Again do check with BLF helpline for further information on this. Also the dwp.gov link you provided above will also have further informationh on ESA and PIP.
Couldn't see a date on that article and with all the changes currently taking place its hard to know what guidelines are being used and indeed if each area code is using the same method to assess.
However continue reading that last para after where is says "Indefinite aware":
quote.......
All information must be taken into account when considering the duration of disabling effects and the duration of disabling effects must be based on the particular circumstances of the individual claimant.
unquote
repeating that last sentence:
quote
..... must be based on the particular circumstances of the individual claimant.... unquote
That sounds very much like the loop hole or get out clause to me, considering "in all cases - Indefinite award" is mentioned as well.
Do phone the BLF helpline for further advice and good luck with any future claim.
I am in agreement with the view that all information is the key point, as always with these dealings with the DWP the devil is in the detail not the headlines.
As you point out the change to PIP will change everything making indefinite awards a piece of history for those of working age.
Thank you stone and Zoee, I'll give them a ring now!
I got DLA when I reached stage 4. Very severe with a lung function under 30%. Although I have the mobility component I do not have the care component. I am at the stage where i should have the care component, I have got worse since I was first awarded, and my wife does a very good job of caring for me in many aspects. But I will not claim it as I just could not go through the stress again. As this also means reapplying for the mobility component at the same time. I use my DLA for a supplied car on Lease and that is invaluable, more so now with using oxygen. So the government has a free carer. Yes this is disgusting. But has been caused by all the free loaders that believe instead of working they can make a living from claims that they are not entitled to.
Thank you so much for the extremely useful post I am a Brittle Asthmatic and I have found info regarding this also which I am going to be able to use!!
I am in almost precisely the same position as Derrylynne. I am over 65 and had the higher rate of the mobility component of the DLA granted just before I was 65 so I won't need to have anything to do with PIP.
I too use the DLA for a Motability car - wonderful organisation - I bought my own small scooter & had a hoist put in to lift the scooter into the car, with Motability's permission. If I had had that done when I was given my present car (my second) Motability would have made a substantial contribution to the cost of the hoist but I didn't expect to need it until I deteriorated dramatically 2 months later.
We recently applied for the care component and were turned down - I'm not yet helpless enough, but soon will be. Age UK were a great help in filling out the forms using the appropriate language & phraseology.
But my point was to do with the word "indefinite". My original letter said an indefinite award but when I came to renew my blue badge I had to get a letter from DWP stating that I was still entitled to it because my condition was still severe and the award was still indefinite - because indefinite does not mean infinite - it could change for the better or worse.
I got the letter - but not yet the new blue badge.
